ELKINS — Downtown Elkins will come alive on July 4 as it joins other communities across the nation in celebrating America 250 and the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.        
The Elkins Fourth of July parade is scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m., and is expected to be filled with patriotic displays, creative floats, decorated vehicles, community spirit, and plenty of red, white and blue.

BUCKHANNON – An Upshur County man is facing felony charges after a motorcycle accident in which a 10-year-old was injured.
David Charles Blagg, 31, of Buckhannon, has been charged with child neglect with serious injury, leaving the scene of a serious injury, and altering registration, all felonies. He is currently being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, on a $35,000 cash-only bond.

CHARLESTON – Several agencies operating locally will receive funding through more than $700,000 in grant announcements this week.
Governor Patrick Morrisey announced the $701,410 in grant funding to “strengthen services for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking in rural communities across West Virginia,” according to a press release from Morrisey’s office.

ELKINS – The Randolph County Democratic Party recently hosted its annual Democracy Dinner at the Wingate by Wyndham Elkins to celebrate 250 years of America.
A sold-out audience was joined by a host of state-level representatives at the event, including West Virginia House of Delegates Minority Leader Sean Hornbuckle, who was the keynote speaker.

ELKINS – Seneca Designs will host a 50th anniversary open house event to celebrate five decades of empowering individuals with disabilities through meaningful employment and opportunity.

CHARLESTON – The number of children applying to take advantage of the full 100% Hope Scholarship award heading into the next school year has doubled, potentially eating up 67% of the allotted funding for the program for the next fiscal year.
According to information released Monday afternoon by the State Treasurer’s Office, 26,617 students applied for the 100% Hope Scholarship award by the June 15 deadline. Those students would receive $5,435.62 each for the 2026-27 school year.
