TANF tension: Morrisey, lawmakers in dispute

CHARLESTON – Gov. Patrick Morrisey’s kickoff to a two-day southern West Virginia listening tour on water issues was overshadowed Tuesday by his handling of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.
Morrisey was at Marshall University in Huntington Tuesday morning to begin his listening tour of water systems in the southern part of the state. But most of the questions from the press were about TANF, the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program also called WV WORKS.

Pitt withdraws from ballot after charges

CHARLESTON – Elliott Pritt, the former Democrat-turned-Republican lawmaker who resigned from the West Virginia House of Delegates after being accused by federal authorities of sexually exploiting a child, will now no longer appear as a candidate in November.
According to the Secretary of State’s Office, Pritt voluntarily withdrew as a Republican candidate for the House District 50 in Fayette County after resigning last week from his House seat.

Details released about FEMA presence in Upshur County

BUCKHANNON – City of Buckhannon and Upshur County officials have released information about the upcoming FEMA presence in flood-ravaged Upshur County.
“FEMA representatives will be arriving in Upshur County soon to meet with residents, assist with applications, and help document storm‑related losses. FEMA and state officials are currently coordinating locations in Buckhannon where residents will be able to speak with personnel directly,” the city/county press release states.

ELKINS — New charges have been filed against a Randolph County couple accused of child abuse after a child in their care was allegedly found bound by zip ties in a bathroom.

Montrose man accused of impersonating FBI agent

MONTROSE — A Randolph County man faces an impersonation charge after allegedly claiming to be an FBI agent receiving around $900 trillion weekly from the federal agency.
Clinton Wayne Nelan, 33, of Montrose, is charged with one count of impersonation of a law-enforcement officer or official, a misdemeanor. He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $3,000 cash-only bond.
