Local bank to fully fund City Hall restoration

ELKINS — Mountain Valley Bank will provide “permanent financing” for the restoration of Elkins City Hall after the Elkins City Council accepted the bank’s funding proposal.
During the council’s June 11 meeting, all nine present council members voted in favor of Resolution 1931, which accepted and approved “a proposal from Mountain Valley Bank for financing of the City Hall renovation project.” First Ward Council member Robert Chenoweth was absent from the meeting.

Girls State participants help with fundraiser

ELKINS – Participants with Rhododendron Girls State teamed up with the Interact Children’s Museum on Thursday to paint stars on the sidewalks in front of businesses in downtown Elkins.
The painting was part of ICM’s ‘Stars, Stripes, and Smiles’ fundraiser and served as a service project for the girls from RGS, who are in town for this week’s annual leadership academy at Davis & Elkins College.

Mountaneers’ Saban named Coach of the Year

OMAHA, Neb. – It took all of two years as a head coach for Steve Sabins to reach a major coaching milestone Friday.
His moment of glory was brief.
“I’d stay here and celebrate, but I’ve got a game to get to,” the WVU head baseball coach said, as he rushed down a hallway inside Charles Schwab Field to get ready for the Mountaineers’ matchup against Troy.
In any manner, Sabins, who was first hired as a WVU assistant coach in 2015, was named the Coach of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball

WVU beats Troy in College World Series opener

OMAHA, Neb. – Tyrus Hall’s blooper down the right field line in the eighth inning Friday – WVU head coach Steve Sabins admitted later – put the wheels in motion on what was about to be a historic day inside Charles Schwab Field.
“Hall gets that hit down the line and I start thinking to myself, ‘We’re about to start singing ‘Country Roads’ in here,” Sabins said.

Tax Division stands by motion to intervene in lawsuit

CHARLESTON – West Virginia tax officials say their interests need to be represented in a federal lawsuit brought by the new loan holders for the Greenbrier Resort and its owner, U.S. Sen. Jim Justice.

Woman charged for assault with metal pipe

ROCK CAVE — An Upshur County woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly breaking a man’s rib with a metal pipe.
Theresa Ann Criss, 54, is charged with one count of malicious assault, a felony. She is also charged with one count of domestic assault, one count of domestic battery second offense and one count of obstructing an officer, all misdemeanors. Criss is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $15,000 surety/cash bond.
