Next phase of flood recovery

Immediately after the deadly flooding of July 21, West Virginians once again showed how big their hearts are by providing donations of supplies, money and volunteer man hours to Upshur and Lewis counties.

OLD TIME MUSIC: Join in the first and third Mondays, 7-9 p.m. at The Arts Center in Elkins for an Old Time Music Session. Beginning musicians are encouraged to join in. Fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo, dulcimer, bass are welcome. Participants enter through the back door.

EMS levy to be on November ballot

ELKINS – The Randolph County Commission approved an excess levy for the Randolph County Ambulance Authority this week.
Commissioners David Kesling, Cris Siler and Kenna Barger unanimously approved running the levy, which will be placed on the election ballot for the November General Election.

All 3 Tucker County Commissioners accused of misusing county funds

PARSONS — All three Tucker County Commissioners have been charged with misdemeanors after allegedly misusing county funds for personal purchases.
Tucker County Commission President Michael William Rosenau, Commissioner Frederick J. Davis Jr., and Commissioner Timothy Paul Knotts were each charged Thursday with one count of unauthorized expenditure by a local official, a misdemeanor.

Manuel facing felony forgery charge

ELKINS — A Randolph County man is facing a forgery charge after allegedly cashing an already deposited check.
Richard Allan Manuel, known as “Opie,” 53, is charged with one count of forging or uttering other writing, a felony. He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $2,500 cash-only bond set by Randolph County Magistrate Benjamin Shepler.

Randolph County Fair to kick off Sunday

BEVERLY — The 2025 Randolph County Fair will officially kick off Sunday, beginning with a Horse Show scheduled to take place in the Dakan Arena at 4-H Camp Pioneer.     
The Horse Show, which will get underway at 10 a.m., will feature riders of all ages competing in events including Ranch Riding, Stick Horse Race, Pole Bending, Barrel Racing and more.

FRENCH CREEK — An Upshur County woman has been charged with DUI for a car accident in January that led to herself and another person being life-flighted to Charleston.
