Mountaineers blank Troy to stay alive in College WS

OMAHA, Neb. — The ball drifted into the afternoon air inside Charles Schwab Field, carrying with it about 134 years’ worth of hopes, dreams, near misses and never-even-closes.
When it landed 395 feet later, Gavin Kelly had himself a home run to remember. West Virginia had itself a trip to college baseball’s Final Four.
Kelly’s three-run shot in the sixth inning backed up what was a noble pitching performance from teammate Dawson Montesa, and the Mountaineers advanced to the national semifinals

WVU researchers probe spacetime ripples

Backed by $5.9 million in National Science Foundation funding, West Virginia University researchers are using stars that function like celestial clocks to search for spacetime ripples known as gravitational waves.
The sources of those ripples could be supermassive black holes. They could be “cosmic strings” — cracks in the universe that have only been theorized. They could even be reverberations from the Big Bang.
“Or there could be a huge surprise,” said Maura McLaughlin, Eberly Family

WVU loses to North Carolina in CWS

OMAHA, Neb. – Brodie Kresser said he was thinking double play when he saw the ground ball off the bat of North Carolina’s Jake Schaffner on Sunday night.
A double play would have got West Virginia out of the seventh inning tied with North Carolina. Instead, the ball came off hard and fell off Kresser’s glove. All UNC runners were safe.
“It just ate me up,” Kresser admitted afterwards. “It bounced and that was it.”
What followed was even more disaster, as North Carolina pulled past West Virginia,
