ELKINS — A Randolph County man has been sentenced to 10 years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to two counts of delivery of a controlled substance.
Randy Junior Snelson, 49, of Huttonsville, was sentenced last week by Randolph County Circuit Court Judge David Wilmoth to two sentences of not less than two, no more than to 30 years of incarceration for two counts of delivery of a controlled substance, a felony. The sentences will run consecutively.

PICKENS — A woman was arrested in Randolph County over the weekend and charged with attempted murder.
Regina Lea Collette, 45, has been charged with attempted homicide (murder), a felony. She is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
Collette was booked into the Tygart Valley Regional Jail at 3:20 a.m. Saturday morning.

PHILIPPI – The Barbour County Health Department has announced that a case of measles has been confirmed within the county.
A social media post by the department states that “1 confirmed case of measles has been identified in Barbour County.
“Out of an abundance of caution, contact tracing is being completed at this time.
“If you are having any of the symptoms below, please contact your health care provider BEFORE being seen by them so they can prepare for your arrival!

The July meeting/luncheon of the Elkins Purple Majesties took place at the Knot Just Another Barn, which was decorated to celebrate an old-fashioned Independence Day. BUCKHANNON – Officials have announced they will close the Distribution Center at West Virginia Wesleyan College — where donated disaster relief supplies have been stored since the deadly flooding of July 21 — on Sunday afternoon.
The coordinated Distribution Center at the Auxiliary Gym at WVWC will operate its final days today, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“No public admittance will be permitted after Sunday at 3 p.m.,” a City of Buckhannon press release stated
In 1890 the town of Elkins was incorporated with the name of Senator Elkins, son-in-law of Senator Davis who brought the railroad from Maryland to help remove timber and coal from these mountains. In 1900 New York developers established the Cherry River Boom and Lumber Company in the town of Richwood. The lumber company also brought in train services to ship out the timber.

ELKINS — Elkins City Council voted to reallocate more than $500,000 in the General Fund Budget after the City carried over more than $1 million from the prior fiscal year.

BELINGTON — A Randolph County man is facing 17 felony charges after allegedly taking almost $200 from his father’s bank account without permission, and also allegedly stealing and selling his firearms.
Denver James Goodwin, 29, is charged with 17 counts of possession of counterfeit or unauthorized access device with intent to defraud, a felony. He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $25,000 surety/cash bond and a $1,000 cash-only bond.

BOWDEN – A barred owl with substantial injuries received a new lease on life thanks to an observant motorist who noticed the injured bird alongside the roadway.
