U.S. strikes Iran after Army helicopter downed

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The U.S. military said Tuesday that it carried out strikes on Iran following the crash of an Army helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz that U.S. President Donald Trump blamed on the Islamic Republic. Tehran vowed to respond.

Father Grassi to be honored

TUCKER COUNTY – Father Timothy Grassi, former Pastor of the Catholic community in Tucker County, will be returning on Sunday, June 14 to celebrate his Silver Jubilee as a priest.

27 states take part in tax credit program

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service announced that 27 states have elected to participate in the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit (FSTC) program, which enables eligible taxpayers to claim a federal tax credit for qualified contributions to Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs) providing scholarships for qualified elementary and secondary education expenses.
For taxpayers to claim the tax credit of up to $1,700, they must contribute to an SGO located in a state that elects to participate

Fleeing case headed to grand jury

ELKINS — A Randolph County grand jury will hear the case of a Barbour County man accused of fleeing from police while drunk, trying to take an officer’s gun and threatening to kill an EMT.
Jonathan Nicholas Durking, 26, of Belington, is charged with one count of attempt to disarm an officer, one count of fleeing DUI and one count of terroristic threats, all felonies. He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond.

D&E hosting American Legion Auxiliary Rhododendron Girls State

ELKINS – Davis & Elkins College is welcoming members of the American Legion Auxiliary Rhododendron Girls State to the school’s campus this week.
More than 200 rising high school seniors will be in attendance for the session which will run through Saturday, June 13.
The week-long summer event, which began at 1 p.m. on Sunday, will feature, among a wealth of exciting activities and learning opportunities, keynote speeches from several state officials and distinguished guests.

Dump Truck Rollover on the Five-Lane

Emergency personnel responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash along the Beverly Five-lane near Roy’s RV Supercenter at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. The crash involved a West Virginia Division of Highways dump truck. Emergency personnel on scene said the driver suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle, which struck a guard rail, went up a bank along the roadway and rolled over. Man reported missing in Randolph County

ELKINS — An elderly man suffering from dementia has been reported missing out of Randolph County, police announced.
Around 10:13 p.m. on Monday, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office asked for the public’s assistance in finding James Hedrick, 82, “who suffers from dementia and other medical conditions.”
According to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office, Hedrick was last seen leaving Davis Medical Center in Elkins on Monday. He was traveling toward the Veterans Intersection in a black Subaru
