Patriots win AFC East, Ravens stay alive and 49ers will battle Seahawks for No. 1 seed in NFC

(AP) — The Patriots became the fourth team to clinch a division title, the Browns kept the Ravens alive and the 49ers moved closer toward a No. 1 seed.
There’s plenty left to be settled before the NFL’s playoff schedule is set.
Twelve of the 14 playoff berths have been secured and four teams are battling for the final two spots. Both No. 1 seeds are up for grabs and there could be two winner-take-all games in Week 18.
New England (13-3) routed the Jets 42-10 on Sunday and later clinched the AFC

Ole Miss defense looks to redeem a humiliating showing against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl

(AP) — Redemption will be on the minds of Mississippi Rebels defensive players when they meet third-ranked Georgia at Thursday’s Sugar Bowl in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff.
“We all wanted to play them again,” said Ole Miss defensive back Wydett Williams Jr., whose unit labored through a season-worst performance during a 43-35 loss at Georgia earlier this season. “We’re happy we get to play them.”

Looking back at top WV state government stories of 2025

CHARLESTON — As West Virginia wraps up the first quarter of the 21st century, state government and its congressional delegation saw some changes while several issues dominated the headlines in 2025
New boss/old boss
The year began with a new senior senator, a new junior senator, a new member of the House of Representatives and a new governor. But none were new to government service.
U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., rose to the position of senior senator for West Virginia following the

PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — President Donald Trump said Sunday he believes both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin truly want peace, as he welcomed the “brave” Ukrainian leader for talks at his Florida resort.
“The two leaders want it to end,” Trump said at the outset of the meeting at Mar-a-Lago. Before Zelenskyy arrived, Trump spoke with Putin by phone for more than an hour, and planned to speak with him again soon after.

Monuments now, dust later

With only three years left in his presidency, Donald J. Trump does not want to be forgotten, not ever. Like an emperor of olden days or a 20th-century tyrant, he is engraving his name on both old and new monuments wherever he can.
At the beginning of December, he had his name carved on the headquarters of the United States Institute of Peace to render it the Donald J. Trump United States Institute of Peace. Clearly, the current administration has no sense of the absurd. According to a federal

Alumna concerned about Harman kids

I too am concerned about the travel of Harman School students to Elkins and back every day.
When I was in school during the 60’s we traveled from the Sinks of Gandy to Harman every day by bus. We left our house at 6:45 a.m., arriving at Harman High School at 8:45 a.m., and left after school at 3:30 p.m., arriving at home at 4:50 p.m.
There was only enough time for supper, homework, bathing and then to bed. I was exhausted, sometimes worse than now, at 74 years of age. There was no time for extra

California’s intense storms turned some roads into rivers of mud

WRIGHTWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Powerful winter storms brought the wettest Christmas season to Southern California in years, sending mud and debris sliding and half-filling homes with mud.
There was still a risk of more flash flooding and mudslides Friday despite slackening rain around Los Angeles, the National Weather Service warned.
“Still not quite out of the woods, but for the most part, the worst is over,” said Mike Wofford, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Los Angeles.

Horoscope

Puffer fish puff, peacocks fan and people at parties posture and sparkle, because making oneself bigger seems like the impressive, attractive thing to do. And with the lunar move from Pisces to competitive Aries, this tactic can even discourage the opposition. Still, approach with humor; the most attractive thing of all is not taking oneself too seriously.
ARIES (March 21-April 19). There’s a time to show your skills, a time to downplay them and wisdom in knowing which way to take things.
