Little League Championship Game set for Saturday in Elkins

The championship game for the 2025 Little League 10-12-Year-Old State Tournament will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at River Bend Park in Elkins. A total of 14 teams from around the state competed for the title in Elkins this week.

Man accused of pointing gun at child

BUCKHANNON — An Upshur County man has been arrested after allegedly pointing a firearm at a 6-year-old boy and a woman during a domestic altercation.
Alex Andrew Alkire, 27, of Buckhannon, has been charged with wanton endangerment and gross child neglect, both felonies; and one misdemeanor count of domestic assault.
He was released on an $11,000 surety bond, set by Upshur County Magistrate Mark Davis.

Children’s hospital takes part in Ogden ‘Fun Run’

MORGANTOWN — It was one foot in front of the other Wednesday morning for Xavier Costello and Legend Williams.
One foot in front of the other – very fast.
The two are currently patients at WVU Medicine Children’s, and the two helped turn the 10th-floor dayroom area into a sprinter’s track that would make any Olympian proud.
They took part in the Ogden Newspapers Fun Run at WVU’s Medicine Children’s, an event all about fun, fitness and breaking the monotony of any hospital stay.

ELKINS – The National Weather Service has announced that a flood watch will be in effect from 2 p.m. today through this evening for Randolph, Upshur, Barbour and Pocahontas counties.

Rose Marie Champ

Rose Marie Champ, 89, of Buckhannon, West Virginia, died Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at her home.
She was born July 19, 1935, in Tallmadge, Ohio, a daughter of the late Olen and Sadie Everson Westfall.
On Sept. 1, 1951, she married Winford L. Champ, who preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 2009.
