Elizabeth Mae Carr Harper, 70, a resident of Alpena, West Virginia, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, in the Davis Medical Center.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon, Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Monday, from the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Todd Rhodes officiating.
Interment will follow at the Jacob C. Harper Cemetery near Harman, West Virginia.
The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of

Trump drops tariffs on beef, coffee, tropical fruit as pressure builds on prices

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump signed an executive order Friday to get rid of tariffs on a broad swath of commodities, including beef, coffee and tropical fruits. It’s part of a response to pressure from consumers who complain prices are too high.
The move comes after voters in off-year elections earlier this month cited economic concerns as their top issue, resulting in big wins for Democrats in races in Virginia and New Jersey.

Pendleton County wildfire now at 85% containment

CHERRY GROVE – The Monongahela National Forest “Woodside Fire” is at 85% containment, the USDA Forest Service announced Friday morning.
In a statement released Friday morning, the Forest Service announced containment of the Woodside Fire in Pendleton County had increased from 75% on Nov. 10 to 85% by Friday, Nov. 14. Approximately 385 acres have been consumed by this fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Cash bond reduced in felony case

ELKINS — A Randolph County man accused of stealing a purse – that held more than $1,000 in cash – from a customer at Walmart has waived his right to a preliminary hearing and received a reduction in his bond.
Brandon Dwayne Daff, 31, appeared in Randolph County Magistrate Court this week and waived his right to a preliminary hearing. Daff is charged with grand larceny, a felony. His case will now be brought before the Randolph County Grand Jury.
