Hacking a lawmaker

We have another alleged case of hacking of a lawmaker.
Last Monday, Del. Charles Sheedy, R-Marshall, posted on the Marshall County WV Republican Club Facebook page that he sent a letter to Gov. Patrick Morrisey and the state congressional delegation regarding the lack of a federal disaster declaration for Ohio and Marion counties.
The following is taken directly from that letter as he (allegedly) wrote it:
“Constituents in District 7 are asking why President Trump has not issued a FEMA Disaster

Scheffler dominates in British Open victory

PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland (AP) — Scottie Scheffler had all the time in the world to celebrate his latest major title. This British Open was never in doubt Sunday as golf’s No. 1 player delivered another dominant performance to win his second major this year and grab the third leg of the career Grand Slam.
Scheffler began with a shot into 10 inches for birdie. One hour into the final round, his lead already was seven shots and no one got closer than four the rest of the way at Royal Portrush.

Lawmakers, interest groups await possible PEIA special session

CHARLESTON — With Gov. Patrick Morrisey’s first special session of 2025 likely to be focused on health care costs for public employees, lawmakers will have to contend with what to do about the Public Employees Insurance Agency.
“That was kicked down the road for many, many years,” Morrisey said during an April press conference celebrating his first 100 days in office. “I don’t intend to kick it down the road. We have to bring everyone together, all the stakeholders: listen, learn, and then

Texas GOP aims to redraw House districts

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, a Texas Democrat who represents a slice of the Rio Grande Valley along the border with Mexico, won his last congressional election by just over 5,000 votes.
That makes him a tempting target for Republicans, who are poised to redraw the state’s congressional maps this coming week and devise five new winnable seats for the GOP that would help the party avoid losing House control in the 2026 elections. Adjusting the lines of Gonzalez’s district to

Health Care

Health care coverage is on the minds of many these days, as we consider what changes at the federal level might mean for those covered by Medicare and Medicaid.
Here in West Virginia, approximately 19% of the population is covered by Medicare and approximately 28% is covered by either Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program, according to a report by the Association of Health Care Journalists.
But the topic is broader than those two kinds of coverage. According to WalletHub’s “States

Should I keep celebrating my ex?

Dear Annie: My husband and I finalized our divorce in April after nearly a year of separation. I’m at a loss as to what to do now when it comes to my ex’s birthday and Father’s Day. We share an 8-year-old son who is severely autistic, so when it comes to holidays and whatnot, everything is my doing with only a little assistance from our boy.
In the past, I always made sure to mark these occasions. But for context, I initiated the divorce because I felt like a married but single mom and couldn’t

Capito: Disaster declaration could come soon

U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito said Thursday that she has been told by the Trump administration that a federal disaster declaration for Ohio and Marion counties could come “early next week.”
Capito, R-W.Va., told reporters Thursday during her weekly call with the media that she has been talking to “anybody and everybody I can to move this along,” and she was told Wednesday when to expect a formal declaration.
“To be perfectly straight up honest with you, the White House told me early next week,”
