WVU baseball sweeps Georgia Southern to start 2026 season

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia baseball had high expectations coming into the 2026 season. The Mountaineers had a strong 2025, finishing with the best record in the Big 12 and a super regional appearance. Tyler Reddick captures Daytona 500

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Michael Jordan, six-time NBA champion, is now a Daytona 500 winner, too.
Tyler Reddick won “The Great American Race” on Sunday with a last-lap pass at Daytona International Speedway that sent Jordan into a frantic celebration. The NBA Hall of Famer bear-hugged Reddick in victory lane and then jointly hoisted the Harley J. Earl trophy with the 23XI Racing driver.

U.S., Iran to hold new round of nuclear talks in Geneva this week

GENEVA (AP) — Iran and the United States will hold a second round of talks over Tehran’s nuclear program next week, the Swiss Foreign Ministry said Saturday.
Oman, which welcomed the first round of indirect talks on Feb. 6, will host the talks in Geneva, the Swiss ministry said, without specifying which days.
After the first discussions, U.S. President Donald Trump warned Tehran that failure to reach an agreement with his administration would be “very traumatic.”

Fugitive captured in Helvetia

BUCKHANNON — A registered sex offender on the run from charges in Upshur County was captured near the small community of Helvetia in Randolph County this week.
James Anderson Roy, 59, was located and arrested by Sheriff Mike Coffman and members of the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, who used multiple technology platforms to obtain Roy’s general location.

Judith ‘Judy’ Marion Goss Gottschall

Judith “Judy” Marion Goss Gottschall, 87, a resident of Norton, passed from this life Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026, at home following a brief illness.
Judy was born Friday, Oct. 28, 1938, in Colwyn, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Henry Richard Goss and Dorothy Margaret Boone Goss.
On June 25, 1955, in Pennsylvania, she married Robert “Bob” Frederick Gottschall, who preceded her in death March 22, 2023.
Also left to cherish his memory are five children, Robert Gottschall Jr. and wife, Judy,

Mary Lou Childs Bishoff

Mary Lou Childs Bishoff, 94, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life early Friday morning, Feb. 13, 2026, at the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center at Elkins, West Virginia.
She was born Tuesday, March 17, 1931, at Albright, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Oakey Albert Childs and Edna Maxine Jefferys Childs.
On Dec. 18, 1948, she was married to Junior Ray Bishoff Sr., who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Junior Ray “JR” Bishoff Jr. and wife, Lynn, of Spencer; one
