Young Filmmakers Camp to return in August

BUCKHANNON — The 11th annual Young Filmmakers Camp will take place at LASCAUX Micro-Theater this August, hosted by ART26201, with assistance from West Virginia Wesleyan College.
The five-day workshop will guide students through writing, shooting and editing a short film from Aug. 10 through Aug. 14. Man charged with abuse of an incapacitated adult

BUCKHANNON — An Upshur County man faces multiple felony charges after police allegedly found an incapacitated 91-year-old in his care living among dirt, trash, waste and feces.
David Daniel Torowski, 64, of Buckhannon, is charged with one count of abuse or neglect of an incapacitated adult and six counts of persons prohibited from possessing firearms, both felonies. He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $19,500 surety/cash bond.

Elkins woman sentenced in Medicaid fraud case

ELKINS — A Randolph County woman was sentenced to seven years of supervised probation and must pay more than $13,000 in restitution to the state.
Carla Loutfi, 53, of Elkins, was sentenced by Randolph County Circuit Court Judge David Wilmoth to not less than one, no more than 10 years in prison for one count of Medicaid fraud and to not less than one, no more than 10 years in prison for one count of fraudulent schemes. Wilmoth suspended both sentences for seven years of supervised probation.

Randolph suspends ambulance service fee

ELKINS – The Randolph County Commission unanimously voted to suspend the Special Emergency Ambulance Service Fee Ordinance during its most recent meeting.   
Commission President David Kesling said the West Virginia State Tax Department recently expressed their objections to the ordinance, which officially went into effect on Wednesday. The Commission approved the ordinance in April.

Corridor H: More miles opened, more reasons for concern

On June 22, the Governor, with federal, state, and local officials, highway workers, contractors, consultants, and citizens including a sign-carrying Go North delegation, opened a section of Corridor H between Kerens and Rt. 72 north of Parsons. Eleven years of construction had extended the highway eleven miles.

Four killed in Barbour County fire

JUNIOR — Four people were killed in a mobile home fire likely caused by “consumer grade pyrotechnic materials” Wednesday evening, officials said.
According to a release put out Thursday afternoon by the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office, at 10:41 p.m. on Wednesday, Barbour County 911 received a call regarding a residential structure fire at 355 West River Avenue in Junior. There were reports that people were trapped in the residence by the fire.
