New citizens display love for U.S.

Some people complain that newspapers don’t publish enough happy news, but this week we reported on an event that was absolutely joyous to 20 groups of family and friends.
Twenty individuals from 12 countries became new United States citizens during the annual Naturalization Ceremony in Elkins.
The new citizens hailed from Brazil, Ecuador, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
This is an annual event that we at The Inter-Mountain love

Pritt indicted on federal charges

CHARLESTON – A former teacher and member of the West Virginia House of Delegates has been indicted by a federal grand jury on three counts related to grooming and sexual activity with a minor.
Elliott Pritt, 36, of Oak Hill, is charged with sexual exploitation of a child, coercion and enticement of a child, and tampering with a witness, victim or informant, according to a press release from U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia Moore Capito.

Commission again looks at ambulance fee

ELKINS — The Randolph County Commission is looking at whether to reimpose a special ambulance service fee that was suspended last month, even though an excess levy to fund ambulance service is scheduled to be on the county’s November General Election ballot.
Randolph County Prosecuting Attorney Michael Parker on Thursday afternoon provided commissioners with information concerning the Special Emergency Ambulance Service Fee Ordinance that was suspended in early July.

28 indicted in task force drug investigation

MORGANTOWN – Matthew L. Harvey didn’t parse words during his remarks Thursday.
“The people are not misguided,” he said. “They are not ‘accidental’ criminals. They are predators.”

Randolph school bus catches fire in Grant County

ELKINS — A Randolph County Schools bus caught on fire today while traveling to Grant County, but no students were injured, officials said.
The Randolph County school system’s transportation director, Nick Alfred, told The Inter-Mountain that the Elkins High School volleyball team was traveling to Moorefield today when the brakes on the bus got hot, and then caught fire.

MORGANTOWN – A drug-trafficking and money-laundering operation running from Detroit into North Central West Virginia has been “dismantled” thanks to a multi-state task force effort, officials said Thursday.
Indictments for a total of 28 defendants — ranging from Detroit, Philadelphia, Mississippi and West Virginia — were announced during a press conference at WVU Erickson Alumni Center Thursday.
