Officers who defended the Capitol on Jan. 6 say their struggles linger

WASHINGTON (AP) — As Donald Trump was inaugurated for the second time on Jan. 20, 2025, former Capitol Police Sgt. Aquilino Gonell put his phone on “do not disturb” and left it on his nightstand to take a break from the news.
That evening, after Gonell spent time with family and took his dog on a long walk, his phone started to blow up with calls. He had messages from federal prosecutors, FBI agents and the federal Bureau of Prisons — all letting him know that the new president had just pardoned

Horoscope

This dramatic Leo moon offers a chance to look at the tendency to catastrophize. Sometimes we wrongly interpret discomfort as danger. We say the unfamiliar is “scary” when it’s just new. Pressure feels like pain, and inconvenience feels like crisis. Today’s challenge is to scale feelings to the size you can handle, and to remember you don’t have to handle it alone.
ARIES (March 21-April 19). Your success formula couldn’t be simpler: Stick close to people who live the way you want to live, and

Echoes from the past tend to inspire ’Canes

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Miami defensive lineman Rueben Bain Jr. doesn’t say much. He just plays.
That’s part of the reason why Bain giving a short, impromptu and unexpected halftime speech to teammates during of Miami’s win over Ohio State in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Cotton Bowl last week was a moment that went viral.
“They don’t got the energy we got, bro,” Bain said. “They don’t want it how we want it.”
And with that, Bain got his “Joaquin said dominate” moment that

Wealthy people asking to pay more

There is something emotionally satisfying about watching a wealthy person call for higher taxes on people like himself. It feels civic-minded, even noble. A recent commentary by former Utah senator, Massachusetts governor and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney fits squarely into this tradition. Faced with a looming fiscal cliff, Romney concludes that entitlement reform is unavoidable and that higher taxes on affluent Americans must be part of the solution.
Don’t be fooled, though. Yes,
