South Carolina senator sues his own legislature over pay raise

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A state senator is suing his fellow lawmakers in the South Carolina General Assembly saying they are illegally giving themselves what is effectively an $18,000-a-year raise for all members.
The increase in the “in-district compensation” — money set aside for legislative duties that has few limits on how it can be spent — is set to go from $1,000 a month to $2,500 a month for all 46 senators and 124 House members starting July 1.
But Republican Sen. Wes Climer’s lawsuit said

Horoscope

Between two planets in the early degrees of the sign of domesticity and tomorrow’s full moon in Sagittarius, there’s a sense of getting into position at a race’s starting line. There may be stillness, but it’s not settled. Our spirits are taut with anticipation like a rubber band stretched full of potential energy, ready for the pop of the full moon.
ARIES (March 21-April 19). You have a mental ledger. You remember who you’ve helped, who you still owe and who you want to show up for. Let others

Nashville hosting Club World Cup matches

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Soccer enthusiasts in Music City once numbered so few that when a fan spotted someone with a soccer bumper sticker, they could probably recognize the car’s driver.
Now? Don’t wave. Odds are it’s a stranger.
Soccer has grown by leaps and bounds from the immigrants who played at a park decades ago through semi-pro to teams drawing only a couple hundred diehard fans eager to watch.
That thirst for soccer helped Nashville go from an outside chance at a Major League Soccer

‘Lilo & Stitch’ cruises to No. 1 again

(AP) — In the box office showdown between a deadly assassin and a chaotic CG alien, “Lilo & Stitch” still had the edge. The Disney juggernaut celebrated a third weekend at the top of the charts, while the John Wick spinoff “Ballerina” did not jeté as high as expected.
According to studio estimates Sunday, “From the World of John Wick: Ballerina” earned $25 million from 3,409 theaters in the U.S. and Canada. Several weeks ago it was tracking to open in the $35 to $40 million range, but that

Family means showing up

Dear Annie: My husband and I have been married for nearly 39 years. He has always had a tendency to put himself first — even before our sons, and now even our toddler grandson — but I’m at my wits’ end over his latest act of selfishness.
His only sister recently suffered a traumatic fall. She was airlifted to a trauma center with a fractured skull and brain injury. Thankfully, she’s expected to make a full recovery, but she spent several weeks in a rehab facility and now continues outpatient
