HHS unveils program to address homelessness and addiction

NEW YORK (AP) — Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Monday announced that his department will devote $100 million toward a pilot program addressing homelessness and substance abuse in eight cities, building on an executive order President Donald Trump signed last week related to addiction.

Bills would affect data centers

CHARLESTON — A handful of delegates in the West Virginia State Legislature have proposed a pair of new bills that would have a direct effect on data centers looking to set up shop in the Mountain State.
The two bills, HB 4509 and HB 4683, were introduced on Jan. 19 and Jan. 21, respectively.
HB 4509 aims to revise HB 2019 and return control to local governments for data center projects.
The bill, which would eliminate most of the original text of HB 2014, was introduced by Delegates Evan Hansen

MORGANTOWN — Despite never attending West Virginia University, a late Monongalia County native with a commitment to community is empowering future students through an estate gift of more than $1.8 million.

Vonn crashes in last race before Winter Games

CRANS-MONTANA, Switzerland (AP) — Lindsey Vonn crashed and injured her left knee in her final downhill race on Friday before the Olympics and said she hopes to recover in time for the Milan Cortina Games.
“This is a very difficult outcome one week before the Olympics… but if there’s one thing I know how to do, it’s a comeback,” the 41-year-old American wrote on Instagram hours after she was airlifted off the course. “My Olympic dream is not over.”

Betty L. New

Betty L. New, a former resident of Jerusalem Road, Mill Creek, West Virginia, and recently of Lavender Fields Assisted Living Facility in Beverly, West Virginia, departed this life Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026. She had been in declining health for several years.
Betty was born on Jan. 25, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Ella Weese.
Betty attended the schools of Randolph County.
Betty held multiple jobs throughout her life, but most would remember her working at Liggett’s Supply, Wal-Mart
