Pearl Mae Martin

Pearl Mae Martin, 90, passed from this life in the evening of Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026. Her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Bill Romine, were with her at her last moments.
She had been in declining health for several years and was surrounded by loving family and caregivers as well as hospice staff at her beloved assisted-living facility, Grand Living, in the Orlando, Florida area. Her reported last words were “I like it here.”

ELKINS – The Elkins-Randolph County Regional Airport is mentioned in one of the millions of files released last week from the investigation into millionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Rosenau files as Independent candidate for Tucker Commission

PARSONS – The president of the Tucker County Commission, Mike Rosenau, has filed as an Independent candidate to run for re-election.
Rosenau, who was previously a Democrat, will not be listed on the Primary Election ballot in May. However, he will be listed as an Independent candidate for County Commission on the November General Election ballot.

Upshur man facing firearm charges

BUCKHANNON — A man prohibited from possessing firearms faces two felony charges after allegedly carrying a concealed firearm into the Kanawha Lounge in Buckhannon.
Joseph Harold Morrison, 63, is charged with one count of persons prohibited from possessing firearms and one count of having a concealed firearm, both felonies. Morrison was being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $15,000 property/surety bond that has since been posted.

Defense seeks to block videos of Kirk’s killing in murder case

PROVO, Utah (AP) — Graphic videos showing the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk while he spoke to a crowd on a Utah college campus quickly went viral, drawing millions of views.

Brickles found guilty of involuntary manslaughter

MARLINGTON – A Randolph County man was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and two other charges after firing a gun into a Durbin home in 2025, resulting in the death of a man inside the residence.
After a seven-day trial, a jury found Jason Franklin Brickles, 48, of Valley Head, guilty of involuntary manslaughter, a misdemeanor, and guilty of two counts of wanton endangerment with a firearm, a felony, in the 2025 shooting death of Christopher Matheny.
