Finding ‘once upon a time’ once again

“Where is the good news?” my son asked the other day, the kind of simple question that can only come from a child.
Obvious, sensical, trusting. He still believes in our essential goodness and still wants to know about humanity’s small kindnesses and large achievements.
We had been talking about doomscrolling on the way to school, our very modern addiction to pain and suffering.

Has it all gone too far?

The unrest in Minneapolis has died down, and the Trump administration is pulling 700 immigration-enforcement offers out of the area. But all of the national media scrutiny has obsessed over Team Trump. They have rarely acted to “hold government accountable” when the governing comes from Democrats, Gov. Tim Walz or Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.

France, terminally ill at the time, was the chairman of NASCAR, the stock car racing series his iron-fisted father founded in 1948. Helton was the first non-family member at that time to rise to president of the series and very much in the France family inner circle.

NEW YORK (AP) — Hollywood largely ceded attention to football over a slow box-office weekend, with the survival thriller “Send Help” repeating as No. 1 in ticket sales and the Melania Trump documentary “Melania” falling sharply in its second weekend.
Super Bowl weekend is typically one of the lowest attended moviegoing times of the year. It was the second slowest weekend last year and in 2024 it ranked dead last for moviegoing.
