Part of log truck overturns on pickup truck, claims life

THORNTON, W.Va. — A Virginia woman died Tuesday in Taylor County when the loaded trailer of a log truck overturned onto the pickup truck she was driving.
State police identified the victim as Shonda Rawlings-Henderson, 51, of Dinwiddie, VA. She was driving eastbound on U.S. Route 50 near Thornton as the log truck was traveling westbound.

SHINNSTON, W.Va. — A pair of first-inning home runs and a complete game effort from senior AJ Bart have the Lincoln Cougars on the verge of a regional championship and a state tournament berth. Lincoln defeated South Harrison, 6-2 in the winners bracket final of the Class AA Region II Tournament.

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Mine Safety and Health Administration cuts are intended to improve efficiency rather than reduce mine safety, according to U.S. Department of Labor Acting Secretary Keith Sonderling.

Appalachian Power responds to appeal of most recent rate hike

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Appalachian Power is responding to an appeal filed in connection with a recent rate increase approved for the utility by the state Public Service Commission.

The PSC proposed a $40 million inflationary rate increase for Appalachian Power in exchange for the company withdrawing a proposed base rate increase. The PSC said it would allow the inflationary increase if the company held off on a base rate case for another year.

State police find “justice” in Timothy Kennedy sentencing over Sgt. Cory Maynard’s death

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — State police say justice has been served in the Timothy Kennedy murder trial over the June 2023 shooting death of Sgt. Cory Maynard.
A Mingo County jury found Kennedy, 32, guilty on all five criminal counts Monday afternoon, including first-degree murder.
