GLENVILLE, W.Va. — Gilmer County sophomore pitcher Kenley Hartshorn returned to the lineup to lead the Titans through a second consecutive elimination game with a 7-0 win over Man in the Class A Region IV Tournament. Parkersburg residents gather for vigil honoring Gretchen Fleming

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. –The Parkersburg community is responding in a big way following the arrest of a man accused in the 2022 disappearance of resident Gretchen Fleming.
The Wood County Women’s Rights Alliance and community members gathered Monday for a candlelight vigil at Point Park.

Wayne County jury convicts’ man in double murder, arson case

WAYNE COUNTY, W.Va. –A jury in Wayne County has found a man guilty on all charges in a double murder and arson case.

Joshua Morrow was convicted Monday on first-degree murder in connection to the deaths of his girlfriend, Britney Brown, 34, and her mother Erma Brown, 57. The jury also convicted Morrow of first-degree arson and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

Delegates hear plea: move to needs-based special ed funding

Throughout the regular legislative session, lawmakers discussed ways of addressing the high cost of education for special needs students but did not manage to get anything passed.
Now in the off season, delegates got back to work, spending a couple of hours focused on the high expense of ensuring special needs students receive their education.

House members begin 2 days of meetings including some discussion on data centers

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — There’s disagreement among some members of the House of Delegates when it comes to the transparency of data center developers.

Governor says his administration has identified ways state government could save $168 million

Gov. Patrick Morrisey said his administration has identified ways the state could save more than $168 million a year.
With a state general revenue budget of about $5.5 billion, that represents a little less than 3 percent.
The governor said every bit of savings counts.
In this case, he said, the process began with internal reviews across state government that identified several cost-saving possibilities that could save the state about $9.9 million a year.

Kennedy convicted on all charges in the death of State Police Sgt. Cory Maynard

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — A Mingo County jury took less than an hour Monday afternoon to convict Timothy Kennedy of all five criminal counts in the June 2023 shooting death of State Police Sgt. Cory Maynard.

Marshall basketball teams adds to backcourt through transfer portal

For college basketball coaches, the task of rebuilding rosters hardly stops.
That reality continued over the weekend for both Marshall hoops programs.
The Thundering Herd men added to their backcourt depth with the commitments of junior college guard Alex Charlotin and Pacific University guard Emmanuel Manyoun.

Despite aging facilities in decay, Braxton County voters reject levy for sports complex

FLATWOODS, W.Va. — A levy which would have built a modernized school sports complex in Braxton County was soundly defeated at the ballot box during the recent primary election. The levy failed with 80 percent of the voters who cast ballots against the idea.
“Actually, I did see it coming,” said Braxton County Superintendent of Schools Donna Burge-Tetrick. “A lot of people had expressed concerns. Braxton County is very difficult to get a bond or levy passed in this community.”
