Anglers catch three new state record fish in a two-week span

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Spring is a magical time for fishing in West Virginia and it doesn’t matter what species you’re after. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources has announced three new state record fish were caught in Mountain State waters within a two week span in late April and early May in West Virginia.

Steam engine locomotive moving to Charleston, traffic delays on Turnpike

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Motorists on the West Virginia Turnpike are going to get a good look at the steam engine locomotive traveling from Hinton to the state Capitol Complex Wednesday afternoon.
State police said northbound Turnpike traffic will be impacted beginning at around 2 p.m. as a large truck carries the 50-ton engine from Princeton to Charleston. State police and the West Virginia Parkways Authority are coordinating an escort.

Unsettled, stormy weather expected from midweek through holiday weekend

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The unseasonably hot weather in the Mountain State has been experiencing over the past few days will take a turn toward stormy weather heading into the Memorial Day Weekend and early next week.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Levi Cornett said a low pressure system forming along a stationary front will create the unsettled weather pattern beginning Wednesday.

Person struck along WV Turnpike in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Traffic was slowed on the West Virginia Turnpike Wednesday morning after a person was struck by a vehicle.
It happened at around 6:43 a.m. near the MacCorkle Avenue exit in Kanawha City.
Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene. Both southbound lanes were closed for about 45 minutes until one lane was reopened at around 7:30 a.m.

Man dies after being struck by vehicle in Cross Lanes

CROSS LANES, W.Va. — The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian.
It happened at around 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Goff Mountain Road in the Cross Lanes are.
A man was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene.
Deputies said the driver of the vehicle was at the scene when emergency personnel arrived.
An investigation is continuing.

Marshall outplayed by Louisiana in 11-1 season-ending setback

Louisiana didn’t play Marshall during the regular season.
The Ragin’ Cajuns got their first look at the Thundering Herd and left-hander Bryce Blevins in the first elimination game Tuesday at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at DABOS Park in Montgomery, Ala. The same held true for the Herd, which saw Cody Brasch, the ERA leader in the league.

Canadian man arrested in Taylor County on kidnapping charge

GRAFTON, W.Va. — A suspect in an Ohio kidnapping was arrested in Grafton Tuesday afternoon.
According to state police, Austin Dubois, 26, a Canadian resident, who state police said was illegally in the United States, had a woman from Euclid, Ohio, in his vehicle whom he had allegedly kidnapped.
Troopers said charges are pending against Dubois in Harrison County, the state of Ohio, along with federal charges.
