BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — State Senator Ben Queen has been appointed to serve on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s newly revitalized Local Government Advisory Committee (LGAC).

Queen, R-Harrison, is one of 13 new appointments to the 22-member national committee, which represents a broad range of communities across the country.

CRAWLEY, W.Va. — West Virginia State Police and the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Departmetn are looking for two young children believed to have been abducted by their mother. Police have issued an alert saying the woman may be armed and dangerous.
The children were last seen at the intersection of U.S. Route 219 and I-64 in Greenbrier County. The alert was issued early this morning.

CONNEAUT, Oh. —  A Preston County man remain missing on Lake Erie after a boating mishap.
Family members say Rodney Nieman, 73, of Bruceton Mills was lost when his boat capsized on Lake Erie near Conneaut , Ohio back on Wednesday. Nieman, his wife, and a friend were fishing at the time of the mishap.
Relatives say the other two on the vessel were rescued, but days of searching afterward produced no sign of Nieman.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Morgan County authorities say a man died in a fiery vehicle crash on Martinsburg Road.
Deputies and fire fighters were dispatched to the site at the intersection with Moonlight Lane early Saturday morning.  A pickup truck at the location was fully engulfed in flames.
Firemen were able to get the fire under control quickly. Once the blaze was out, a body was discovered in the vehicle. The Sheriff’s Department indicated the victim appeared to be a 24-year old man. His

WAYNE, W.Va. — Wayne County Sheriff Eddie Bradshaw has handed in his resignation.
Bradshaw, who was elected in 2024, told the Wayne County Commission Friday he’s resigning for family and personal reasons.
The county commission will be in charge of appointing Bradshaw’s replacement. The person chosen will serve through December 2028.

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — A deadly hit-and-run on the West Virginia Turnpike resulted in a guilty plea Friday in Fayette County Circuit Court.
Fayette County Prosecutor Anthony Ciliberti said Anthony Hay, of Wayne County, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated vehicular homicide, a felony.
Hay was driving a box truck on the Turnpike on Oct. 3, 2025, when he drifted off the highway and struck Jack Walter, of Middlesex, North Carolina. Walter was off the road after his vehicle had broken down.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Maryland man originally charged with murder in a Charleston shooting pleaded guilty to a lesser charge Friday.
Joshua Scales, 34, of Hyattsville, Maryland, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the January 2025 shooting death of St. Albans resident Ethan Chic-Colbert.
Chic-Colbert was in a parked car on Elizabeth Street on Charleston’s East End when he was gunned down. Charleston police arrested Scales about a month later after using evidence from a scratch-off

WESTON, W.Va. — Robert L. Bland Middle School students will start the school year at WVU Jackson’s Mill instead of starting virtually and transitioning to the school after flood damage is repaired.

The Lewis County Board of Education unanimously made the decision during an emergency meeting Friday morning for the middle school students to have classes at Jackson’s Mill from Sept. 8 through the end of May 2027.
