Charleston’s annual Sternwheel Regatta set to return with traditional as well as new events in a little over a week

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The countdown for Charleston’s annual Sternwheel Regatta is on– with just a little over a week out– and this means that all the preparations for the major event are underway.
The Regatta will officially kick off on Thursday, July 3 and will last through Sunday, July 6.

WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute partnering with Riddell to make safer helmets for youth football players in Marion County

MARION COUNTY, W.Va. — A recent tragedy on the football field has sparked more change in West Virginia.
On August 24, 2024, 8th grader Cohen Craddock, died after suffering a head injury during a practice in Boone County. Craddock collided with another player during a drill and was taken off the field while still conscious, but collapsed before an ambulence reached the field.

WVSSAC regional alignments set for 2025-2026 & 2026-2027 seasons

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission has published new regional alignments for all sports, which will be in effect for the next two academic years (2025-2026 & 2026-2027).

Hospital reps: Rural healthcare providers would be at risk under ‘Big, Beautiful’ provisions

West Virginia hospital organizations are expressing deep concern about the potential effects of the “Big Beautiful Bill” under consideration in the U.S. Senate.
Several analysts have concluded that rural hospitals, including around seven in West Virginia, could be endangered by the financial effects of the legislation.
This is a big week for consideration of the big reconciliation bill as Senate leaders continue to aim for a Fourth of July deadline for passage.

Appalachian Power to show Putnam County residents new power-line route, Meeks Mountain Trails now unaffected

HURRICANE, W.Va. — Those in Putnam County who fought to steer Appalachian Power Company’s plans for new transmission lines away from the beloved Meeks Mountain Trails can now take a breath.
Appalachian Power has announced that there are new route options for their Bancroft-Milton Transmission Line Rebuild Project, which will see around 20 miles of new lines be rebuilt in Putnam County.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — There aren’t many opportunities to find a new species. However, there are folks in the field of biology who are looking for such things every day. Congressional delegation responds following U.S. strike on Iran

Driver survives plunge from I-64 bridge

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A driver was reported to be conscious and alert after her car plunged off an I-64 bridge in Charleston Saturday afternoon.
The car ended up between MacCorkle Avenue and the railroad tracks after the 3 p.m. wreck. The car was headed east when it went over the side wall just before the Eugene A. Carter Memorial Bridge.
The injured woman was taken to the hospital. Police have not released her name or condition.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Capitol Market in Downtown Charleston announced on Friday that it was included on the National Register of Historic Places.
This new designation sheds light on places that have historical and cultural significance in a certain area.
