Rabid skunk found in Martinsburg; sixth rabies case reported this year in Berkeley County

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Berkeley County is experiencing more rabies cases than it has in recent memory. This week, the Berkeley County Health Department issued a rabies alert after a rabid skunk was found in the Gregory Drive area of Martinsburg.

The West Virginia Office of Laboratory Services notified Berkeley County Health Department officials July 7th of a positive test result for the rabies virus in the skunk.

Preseason honors continue for Marshall football players

Harrison County education leader defends local school board following state partial takeover

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Education officials in Harrison County are assessing next steps with the system under a partial state of emergency.
The West Virginia Board of Education seized Harrison County Schools for more close oversight during Wednesday’s meeting. Harrison joined Mingo, Logan, Upshur, Nicholas, Tyler, Hancock, Boone and Roane under state intervention.

Retailers have been working to reverse West Virginia ban on food stamps for sugary drinks

West Virginia retailers had to make a range of changes to implement West Virginia’s waiver preventing benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program from being used to buy drinks with sugar and artificial flavorings.

Man arrested after allegedly making threats to Trump, Elkins mayor after being fired

ELKINS, W.Va. — A fired municipal employee in Randolph County has been charged after making against President Trump and Elkins Mayor Jerry Marco.

Deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Elkins Fire Department Wednesday where Marco told them a former water department employee, Christopher Curtis, 44, threatened him and President Trump.

National Weather Service posts widespread flood watch with heavy rain expected through Sunday morning

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service has placed most of the state under a flood watch through Sunday morning.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. –A major health care investment is coming to Upshur County.
