Southern W.Va. man arrested in UFC White House terror plot

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Southern West Virginia resident has become the eighth individual arrested in connection with a plot against government officials during the recent UFC event at the White House.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced in a release Thursday Chandler D. Scaggs, 21, of Chapmanville, W.Va. was arrested for his role in the plot.
According to investigators Scaggs was allegedly to be one of the snipers in the planned June 14th attack on the UFC Freedom 250 event.

South Carolina woman admits stealing nearly $38,000 through identity theft

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –A South Carolina woman pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated identity theft.
Della Palestino, 60, of Lexington, South Carolina admitted in court that she conducted four fraudulent transactions and withdrew a total of $37,645 from the bank accounts of four individuals.

Chelsea Ruby, tourism secretary who served in three administrations, heads for new frontiers

Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby, a veteran of three administrations, plans to depart at the end of the month.
Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced the departure today.

After fifth playoff win in three years, Tucker County seeks another lengthy postseason run

A federal judge says there will be no more delay in a class action lawsuit over West Virginia’s foster care system that was first filed in 2019.

Groundbreaking held for new Chesapeake VFD substation in Kanawha County

WINIFREDE, W.Va. — Nearly three years after a devastating flash flood in eastern Kanawha County wiped out a firefighting substation, a positive stride forward has been made.
Gov. Patrick Morrisey, firefighters, as well as local, state, and federal officials gathered Thursday morning to break ground on the new Chesapeake Volunteer Fire Department substation in Winifrede. The project costs $2.9 million and is primarily funded by FEMA through disaster relief money.

West Virginia’s delay in clothing voucher program heightens concerns for needy families

West Virginia typically uses clothing vouchers to help children in low-income families afford back-to-school essentials like pants, shirts, skirts, dresses, shoes, coats, underwear and other basic clothing.
Each year, more than 80,000 children across the state are able to use the School Clothing Allowance. Eligible families can usually shop with the vouchers starting July 1.
