Logan County BOE hears from residents on proposed closure of Verdunville Elementary

LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. –Logan County Board of Education members heard from the public and addressed questions about the proposed closure of one of their elementary schools and the consolidation of its students into another school.
The board has proposed closing Verdunville Elementary School after a rockslide occurred on April 8 due to heavy rainfall. The rockslide forced the school to close until after Spring Break on April 21. If the closure is approved, students would be consolidated into Omar

$1 million Powerball ticket sold in Hardy County

HARDY COUNTY, W.Va. — A $1 million lottery ticket was sold in rural Hardy County, according to the West Virginia Lottery.
The winning ticket was sold at Misty Valley Grocery in Mathias, which is located on State Rt. 259 along the Lost River.
According to a release, the winning ticket matched all five numbers but not the Power Ball.
The winning numbers from the Monday drawing were 7, 33, 50, 57, 66 and the Power Ball was 23.

The House of Representatives, in a bipartisan vote, passed a bill that to compel the Department of Justice to release additional information about the federal government’s investigations into the late disgraced financier and accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

Fairmont man charged after Randolph County axe attack

RANDOLPH COUNTY, W.Va. — A Fairmont man has been charged with malicious assault following an incident in the Valley Head area.
Deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department said Shaquille Evans, 32, threw a camping axe at another man during an altercation striking him in the hand. Deputies said the victim suffered a serious cut between the knuckles.

MULLENS, W.Va. — Brooke Bailey, a third and fourth grade math teacher at Mullens Elementary School, is one of 30 teachers nationwide taking home $25,000 as part of the Milken Educator program.

Child struck entering a Charleston school for the day

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A six year old girl is recovering from a serious head injury after being hit by a car while heading into school. The incident happened about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at Charleston’s Edgewood Elementary School.
