Charleston non-profit to end breakfast service Friday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A local soup kitchen in Charleston is set to end one of its services on Friday.
Manna Meal, which has been serving meals to Charleston residents for nearly 50 years, will stop serving breakfast in an effort to preserve its ability to continue serving lunch.
The non-profit sent out a release last Friday, calling on the community for help because its mission to serve was in jeopardy.

Salem man convicted in drug-related killing

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A Salem man has been convicted in the February 2024 drug-related killing over a $100 debt.
A jury in Harrison County found Dennis High guilty of first-degree murder with mercy and guilty of conspiracy to commit kidnapping in the killing of Dallion Lewis, 37.
Prosecutors said High played a key role in the killing by cleaning out the trunk of his car for the killers to hide in and selecting the location the killing would take place on Jack Run Road.

Campground in Summersville to be closed for beginning of Gauley season

SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. –A campground in Summersville is set to be temporarily closed for three weeks for the beginning of Gauley Season.
The National Park Service announced that the Tailwaters Campground in Gauley River National Recreation Area, which is located below Summersville Dam on the upper Gauley, will be closed beginning Tuesday, September 2. The park is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, September 23.

Raleigh County man arrested for robbery in Beckley

BECKLEY, W.Va. –A Raleigh County man is in jail following a robbery at a gambling hall in Beckley Thursday morning.
Eric Dillon, 40, of Lanark, was arrested and charged with first degree robbery.
According to a release from the Beckley Police Department, deputies responded to a robbery in progress call at Opportunity Knocks around 3:30 a.m.

Fairmont I-79 widening project completed, cones are gone

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — All lanes are open and the cones are gone on an Interstate 79 widening project in Marion County.
The new six-lane widening opened to traffic Thursday about 48 hours before WVU’s home opener against Robert Morris.
Work on the three-mile section of highway began shortly after Pennsylvania-based Swank Construction Company was awarded a contract for $72.5 million in May 2021.
