Benson tells lawmakers Washington Center for Civics in staffing stage

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The newly-created Washington Center for Civics, Culture and Statesmanship at West Virginia University, led by Dr. Patrick Miller, is adding staff and preparing to complete their mission of educating students about the founding principles of our country, according to WVU President Michael T. Benson.

One dead in Marmet fire preceded by “loud booms”

MARMET, W.Va. – One person is dead following a fire in Marmet that officials say was preceded by “loud booms.”
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office indicated the call came in for a structure fire on Creek Alley around 7pm on Saturday.
Efforts to fight the fire led to the closure of Lens Creek Road as units from the Kanawha Coutny Sheriff’s Office, Marmet Fire Department, and Chesapeake Fire Department responded to the scene.
The West Virginia State Fire Marshals Office is investigating.

Two bills seek to reverse BOG changes from bill approved last year

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — There are currently two pieces of legislation in Charleston that would restore higher education board of governors voting rights to all or some classes.

Mountaineers collect 20th win, 87-68 over Arizona

A late season discovery turns into the buck of a lifetime

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Most bow hunters go into the archery season in West Virginia with a pretty good sense of the deer in their hunting area. Wayne water cleared for use

WAYNE, W.Va. –– The Mayor of Wayne has given the green light to municipal water customers to resume full use of the town’s water service.

Hegseth indicates Beckstrom and Wolfe will receive the Purple Heart

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth indicated two members off the West Virginia National Guard shot in the line of duty in Washington D.C. will be awarded the purple heart.
The acknowledgement came as Hegseth addressed a group of guard troops in a re-enlistement ceremony Friday at the Washington Monument. Hegseth referred to West Virginia National Guard Specialist Sarah Beckstrom and West Virginia Air Guard Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe as “soon to be Purple Heart recipients.”
