Charleston man, woman receive sentences for federal sex trafficking case

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Two Charleston residents were sentenced Monday for their roles in a sex trafficking conspiracy that operated in Charleston and the Rand area of Kanawha County, following their convictions at trial.

DOH warns of pothole surge following frigid temperatures

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –The state Division of Highways is encouraging motorists to brace for potholes that are coming following the two weeks of frigid temperatures after the snow and ice that swept through the state.
The DOH said in a news release, that once the snow and ice does melt it will show a fresh new crop of potholes on the roads.

WV Parkways Authority purchases Charleston building for new headquarters

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Parkways Authority has purchased the former Moose Lodge on Kanawha Boulevard in Charleston for its new headquarters.

School sports transfer bill goes back to locker room for further evaluation

Delegates started discussing a bill that would revisit the rules surrounding transfers for school sports, but it’s unclear when or if the bill will move ahead.

Dominion says Mount Storm will continue burning coal sourced from elsewhere

BISMARCK, W.Va. — The closure of the Mountain View mine by Mettiki Coal in Tucker County will have minimal impact on the nearby Mt. Storm Power Station.
The Mt. Storm operation got more than 90 percent of the coal mined at Mettiki. A small percentage was shipped overseas for steel production. The recent announcement the mine would close is reportedly blamed on increasing costs of operation for the mine.

Lawsuits filed over Wayne water crises

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Three Charleston lawyers are taking on the struggle of the customers of the Wayne water system who were out of water for more than three weeks.
A lawsuit has been filed in Kanawha County Circuit Court against the Town of Wayne and American Electric Power over the contamination of the town’s water. Wayne Mayor says he understands skepticism

WAYNE, W.Va. — Residents of Wayne are cleared to drink water from the town’s municipal water system again. Some however, may not be ready to take that step after three weeks of being told not to drink.
