PRINCETON, W.Va. — Coming into the 2023 season, Princeton’s Brad Mossor was embroiled in a quarterback battle with fellow sophomore Chance Barker.
Both aimed to take the reins from the record-setting quarterback Grant Cochran following his graduation.
Mossor had a leg up in game experience having started at wide receiver as freshman in 2022 but when the decision came Barker was named the starter, leaving Mossor at receiver.
He accepted that challenge and

SSAC awards co-champion in AA cheer after clerical error

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — The SSAC has announced it has awarded a second championship trophy in Class AA cheer after a clerical error.
The SSAC said Lincoln High School is now state champ along with Westside High School.
A Friday news release said Lincoln filed an inquiry after last month’s championships in Charleston “regarding the application of the tumbling rubric used during scoring.”
A review then began.

Preliminary hearing scheduled in Musselman High coach case

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A preliminary hearing has been set for next year in the case of a Musselman High School cross country coach accused of soliciting a minor.
Hunter Austin Reed, 25, was arrested Oct. 27 and charged with one felony count of soliciting a minor by means other than computer.
He was arraigned on Dec. 4 and released on $15,000 bond.
Reed is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in Berkeley County Magistrate Court on Feb. 23.

Appeal is readied in challenge to West Virginia’s charter schools system

Appeal has kicked off following a circuit judge’s ruling that state officials must ensure local citizens a vote when charter schools are established or risk losing the entire West Virginia charter schools system.
Lawyers for the state’s Professional Charter Schools Board say a recent circuit court order risks the goals of the schools to improve student learning, promote higher student achievement and expand parents’ choice.
