State and developer dispute whether Tucker County project hit deadline for data center certification

State officials and the company planning a data center campus and power plant in Tucker County are in a disagreement over whether the project has reached the point that it should be seeking official state certification.
A proposed data center development in the Canaan Valley area is known as the Ridgeline Facility, a controversial project featuring a 785-megawatt gas-fired power plant.
It is not one one of the projects that West Virginia has certified so far.

Mingo County woman arrested for death caused by child neglect

VARNEY, W.Va. — A Mingo County woman is in custody in connection to a death of a child.

The Mingo County Sheriff’s Office announced that Jonda Whitt, 35, of Varney, was arrested Saturday and charged with child neglect causing death and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
Whitt is being held in the Southwestern Regional Jail.

Supreme Court is ready for case about whether citizens should vote on charter school establishment

A case about how charter schools are authorized in West Virginia is ready to be considered by the state Supreme Court.
The case has matured for consideration by the court, meaning the court can now choose to decide the case on the merits without oral argument or set the case for oral argument and then decide it.
The most likely time period for the oral arguments would be this fall.
The court adjourned its winter and spring term on June 11. The next regular term of court does not begin until

State Transportation Secretary reports DOT implementing audit suggestions, working to save $50 million

CANAAN VALLEY, W.Va. — The West Virginia Department of Transportation is implementing suggestions from the consulting firm BDO’s audit that identified over $50 million in potential savings.

Woman wanted on narcotics charges in Virginia arrested in Summers County

HINTON, W.Va. — A woman wanted in Virginia for felony narcotics-related charges was arrested Saturday in Summers County.

The Summers County Sheriff’s Department said a deputy responded to an alleged domestic disturbance near Fox Addition Road in the county. The deputy then met Cassondra Wood, 36, during the investigation.

WVU BOG member claims major issues in School of Agriculture, persuades fellow members to support further review

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The WVU Board of Governors has decided to allow the university’s incoming provost to do a further review of the Davis College of Agriculture’s School of Agriculture and Food Systems after BOG member Terry Hauser highlighted issues within the school.

Marshall University announces 40th group of Yeager Scholars, six West Virginians selected

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Ten students from West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky were selected in Marshall University’s 40th group of Yeager Scholars.
