Terra Alta budget submitted, acting mayor and recorder appointed ahead of June 10 election

TERRA ALTA, W.Va. — Town council appointed an acting mayor and acting recorder in an emergency meeting Thursday.
Former Terra Alta Mayor Dan Hauger and former recorder Mikaela Bernard each resigned after the town failed to submit its budget to state officials on time. The late submission jeopardizes their ability to collect taxes and deliver services for the 2025-26 fiscal year, officials said.

Three hurt in Thursday night Rowlesburg crash

ROWLESBURG, W.Va. — Three people are being treated for injuries suffered in a crash on U.S. 50 in Preston County near Cool Springs Park.
First responders were called to the scene of a head-on collision around 7 p.m. and closed the road during the clean up and investigation.
Three people were transported for treatment of unknown injuries.
The reopened around 9:15 p.m.
Troopers from the West Virginia State Police, volunteer firefighters from Rowlesburg and Fellowsville, along with KAMP Ambulance

State Investment Management Board approves Morrisey’s policy to ban investments in companies controlled by Chinese Communist Party

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Governor Patrick Morrisey has been adamant that many Chinese-owned companies are a threat to America in some way, and now his latest proposed resolution to divest funds from these companies has been adopted.
The state Investment Management Board (IMB), who mostly manages state pension funds, passed that resolution on Thursday.

Clarksburg-based union agrees to pay close to $270,000 to settle false claim of federal COVID fund

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A labor union based in Clarksburg has agreed to just under $270,000 to settle allegations that they violated the False Claims Act, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 596 (IBEW Local 596) was one of four labor organizations to settle allegations of falsely obtaining Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans.

Kanawha County man sentenced after obstructing hundreds of pieces of mail

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County man has been sentenced after he admitted to obstructing mail.
Brice Allen Pomeroy, 26, of Hernshaw, was sentenced to two years of federal probation.
Pomeroy was formerly employed by a United States Postal Service vendor as a mail handler in Charleston. While he was employed, Pomeroy knowingly disposed of over 200 pieces of mail outside of a gas station in Charleston,
