Marion County couple charged after police investigation

MANNINGTON, W.Va. — Two Marion County residents have been charged after West Virginia State Police found two juveniles living in unsafe conditions with drugs in the home.
Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department reported the home on Flaggy Meadow Road had no utilities, smelled strongly of animals and feces, trash, dirty laundry, and drug paraphernalia.

Legendary broadcaster Tony Brown, who grew up in Charleston, has died

Tony Brown, a television journalist, educator and civil rights advocate who grew up in West Virginia, has died.
He was best known as the commentator of the long-running syndicated television show Tony Brown’s Journal.
He died June 17 at his home in Newport News, Va., at age 93. His death from coronary heart disease was announced on Friday on his Facebook page.
Brown was born April 11, 1933, the youngest of five children to Royal Brown and Catherine Davis Brown in Charleston.

Nscale hosting job fair in Point Pleasant for Monarch Compute Campus project

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — There’s a job fair in Mason County on Tuesday to highlight positions available with the coming Nscale data center.
AI infrastructure company Nscale is taking over and expanding the Monarch Compute Campus in the county.
The job fair will be held at the former Mason County Armory in Point Pleasant from noon until 7 p.m.

Delegate Daniel Linville resigns from House, citing upcoming opportunity

Delegate Daniel Linville, who recently lost in the primary election, has submitted his legislative resignation and cites new opportunities ahead.
“A new opportunity to continue this work has been brought to me — one which requires that I resign the Office of Delegate of the 22nd District,” Linville, R-Cabell, wrote in a letter addressed to House Speaker Roger Hanshaw.
Linville did not specify the opportunity.

Flood recovery continues in Boone County

WHARTON, W.Va. — Boone County authorities say more than 120 homes were impacted across their county by high water. County Emergency Services manager Michael Mayhorn said they are counting the number of disaster forms filled out by flood victims to base the numbers.
“In some way or some fashion, 120 plus places around the county, not just to Wharton or Van, were impacted in some way,” he explained.

Investigation underway after video recording device found at WVU hospital

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A WVU Medicine employee is suspended and an investigation has been launched after a video recording device was found at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital Friday.

Man dies after electrocution that followed wreck in Fayette County creek

ARMSTRONG CREEK, W.Va. — A Fayette County driver apparently survived an initial wreck into a creek before making contact with a live power line claiming his life.
Fayette County Sheriff Jess McMullen said the wreck occurred Sunday evening on Armstrong Creek Road.
Witnesses told deputies the man got out of his wrecked vehicle that had overturned in the creek and then made contact with a downed power line.
The man suffered fatal burn injuries after what appears to have been an electrocution. He

Alarms continue to sound over future of public education

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
