Garnishing Wages Overdue

The federal government is preparing to restart one of its most aggressive student-loan collection tools: wage garnishment. Beginning early next year, the U.S. Department of Education will notify borrowers who have fallen into default that a portion of their paychecks will be withheld to cover unpaid loans. West Virginia students learn online safety through new S.W.A.T. program

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –During the 2025-26 school year, students in grades three through 12 learned about online and social media safety as a result of legislation passed by the West Virginia Legislature.
The S.W.A.T. (Safety While Accessing Technology) bill was passed during the 2024 legislative session. It required the state Department of Education to develop a S.W.A.T. education program for students in those grade levels for the 2025-26 school year.

Huntington man facing several charges after threatening to burn down Boone County home, assaulting officer

GORDON, W.Va. — A man is in jail after he went on an alleged violent spree in Boone County.
Charles Douglas Loftis II, 49, of Huntington, has been charged with domestic assault, assault on a police officer, obstruction of an officer, attempting to commit arson, brandishing a deadly weapon and unlawful restraint.

IVYDALE, W.Va. — State Police are investigating after the body of a woman was found earlier in the month.
The body was discovered in the Ivydale area along the Elk River Trail on December 19.
A preliminary investigation shows no signs of foul play.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Frustration from Cornelius Jackson was easy to sense following Marshall’s 70-63 loss at Troy back on December 20 in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams.

Changes to defensive staff continue for Herd with additions of Hood and West

Marshall head coach Tony Gibson promised significant staff changes after the Herd dropped two straight and four of five to end the 2025 season with a 5-7 record.
Brad Lambert has since been announced as Thundering Herd defensive coordinator, the third such instance of Lambert on the MU staff after he previously worked under former head coaches Jim Donnan and Doc Holliday.
