Bluefield State University sees highest enrollment rate since pandemic, shifts focus to retention efforts

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. –Bluefield State University’s fall enrollment numbers are the highest the university has seen, continuing its trend of rising enrollment since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The university recently announced that Fall 2025 enrollment reached 1,442 students, a 10% increase from last fall. They have seen a notable increase in first-time freshmen, with 313 students enrolled this year compared to 218 last year.

‘Safe Streets’ increased patrol program returns in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Morgantown Safe Streets program is back with the return of West Virginia University students in Morgantown.

Man charged with murder after domestic dispute in Mercer County

GLENWOOD, W.Va. –One man was arrested after a domestic dispute led to another man’s death Saturday in Mercer County.
Eric Halsey, 39, is charged with murder. According to a news release, deputies had responded to a call of domestic in progress at a house on Ive Street in the Glenwood area.

Mingo County split on idea of proposed data center

MINGO COUNTY, W.Va. — Mingo County Commission President Nathan Brown says he’s heard mixed reviews about a proposed data center within his county.
The West Virginia Department of Enviornmental Protection is considering an air quality permit application from TransGas, who wants to put a data center and a power plant to provide electricity to the center in the Adams Fork area of Mingo County.

West Virginians who want a covid vaccine shot may face a tougher time this year.
