Hollenbeck, Speer help Marshall overcome slow start to roll past Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 98-70

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall chalked up the anticipated lopsided win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a Thursday matinee at Cam Henderson Center. It just took a little longer than perhaps expected. 
Trailing 37-35 at halftime, the Thundering Herd pulled away and then some over the latter 20 minutes to record a 98-70 victory in front 3,373 fans. The game was moved up 3 hours earlier in the week to avoid conflict with Marshall’s men’s soccer NCAA Tournament game against Cleveland

Federal judge rules against deployment of National Guard to D.C. without local consent

A federal judge ruled that deployment of the National Guard from several states, including West Virginia, to Washington, D.C., has been unlawful.
U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb, a Biden appointee to the federal court covering the District of Columbia, granted a preliminary injunction on Thursday afternoon. However, Cobb issued a stay of her own ruling until Dec. 11 to allow for appeal and “to prevent potential disruption to the functioning of the District and the National Guard.”

UMWA says communication error may have caused mine accident in Marion County

FAIRVIEW, W.Va. — More details are available regarding the accident at the Loveridge Mine in Marion County Wednesday morning.
UMWA Communications Director Erin Bates said at 9:42 a.m. there was a suspected communications issue that contributed to the accident.
“It does sound like there was an issue on the man trip, and two people were injured; one was hospitalized and has been released,” Bates said. “It sounds like a communication error.”

Charleston firefighters come through with 18 turkeys at Turkey Drop

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — City firefighters agreed to a friendly competition to help those in need.
Charleston Fire Chief Craig Matthews said they challenged each crew to see if they can bring in more turkeys than the other for the WVRC Media Third Annual Turkey Drop held Thursday at radio station headquarters in downtown Charleston.
They brought in 18 turkeys.

Trials scheduled for lawsuits in State Police hidden camera case

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Legal proceedings are taking another step forward for more than 80 women suing the West Virginia State Police, with several cases scheduled to go to trial in 2026.
More than 15 attorneys appeared before Kanawha County Circuit Judge Kenneth Ballard on Thursday for a scheduling and status hearing in the wide-ranging case that covers more than two years. The lawsuits primarily stem from the discovery of a hidden camera inside the women’s locker room area at the West Virginia
