Shepherd’s Hendrix stepping down as president

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Shepherd University President Dr. Mary J.C. Hendrix has announced she’ll leave the president’s office after this academic year.

Miller honors Tim Armstead on U.S. House floor

WASHINGTON D.C. — Congresswoman Carol Miller took a moment on Thursday to honor the late Justice Tim Armstead on the floor of the United States House of Representatives.
Armstead, who also served as West Virginia’s House Speaker at one point, died at the age of 60 in late August. He had been battling cancer.
Miller said Armstead stood up for the ones that needed a voice the most in West Virginia.

Manchin ready to kick-off book tour

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Former U.S. Senator Joe Manchin will begin a five-stop tour in support of his memoir, Dead Center: In Defense of Common Sense, in Morgantown this evening.
Manchin will be interviewed by retired MetroNews “Talkline” Host Hoppy Kercheval at the Diversified Energy Terrace in Milan Puskar Stadium beginning at 5:30 p.m. The book goes on sale Tuesday.
Manchin said commonsense is within the grasp of everyone but seems to be a fleeting personality trait in the nation’s capital.

White House approves public assistance in connection with Father’s Day weekend floods

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The White House has approved public assistance funding in connection with the Father’s Day Weekend floods in West Virginia in Ohio and Marion counties.
The signed declaration from President Donald Trump means the state, county, local governments and certain non-profits will be reimbursed for money spent in flood response and clean-up.
“This Public Assistance from FEMA is critical to aiding our recovery efforts in Marion and Ohio Counties,” Gov. Morrisey said in a news release.

Family Treatment Court to continue operating for another year after significant grant award

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia has announced that its Family Treatment Court program will be funded for the next year.
According to a release from the Supreme Court, the Court has been awarded up to $1,162,038 through the federal Public Defender Services’ Impacting Child Abuse and Neglect (iCan) grant program.
