Notebook: Harrison expresses gratitude, challenges Herd fans to maintain involvement

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Gerald Harrison is closing in on a full calendar year as Marshall University Director of Athletics/Vice President and has shown across the last 11 months he likes to maintain contact with the Herd fanbase.
Harrison roamed through tailgate lots during the 2025 football season and talked with fans, something he also did inside the Cam Henderson Center during basketball season.

Wheeling mayor seeks to ease concerns over former foundry site’s future

WHEELING, W.Va. –Wheeling Mayor Denny Magruder is clearing up confusion about the future of the former Centre Foundry and Machine Co. site in Warwood after it was acquired by Silicone Foundation several weeks ago.

Last week, residents and some state lawmakers were upset after learning the site might be redeveloped into a data center.

Doddridge County reloads after 12-win season, run to Class AA semifinals

WEST UNION, W.Va. — In the most prolific decade to date for the Doddridge County football program, the Bulldogs have made nine consecutive playoff appearances and they have posted a record of 91-25 with twelve postseason wins. In their first year since being reclassified into Class AA last fall, Doddridge went 12-1 with a win at unbeaten Independence before falling at eventual state champion Frankfort in the semifinal round.

Raleigh County man charged with illegal fireworks sales in Summers County

SUMMERS COUNTY, W.Va. –The State Fire Marshal’s Office has cited and charged a Raleigh County man for allegedly selling a variety of consumer-grade fireworks without the required authorization.
According to a release from the Fire Marshal’s Office, they had received a complaint on Friday regarding the possible illegal sale and use of consumer fireworks in the Pence Springs area of Summers County.

Vandalia Health’s Sandene ready to meet health care challenges head-on

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — New Vandalia Health President and CEO Jeff Sandene didn’t have to go very far to get to his new office at CAMC General in Charleston.

Dunbar restaurant damaged in fire

DUNBAR, W.Va. — A Mexican restaurant in Dunbar was damaged in a fire Saturday afternoon.
The blaze happened at Los Agaves restaurant. Flames were showing on the roof when fire crews arrived on the scene at shortly after 1:50 p.m.
Reports indicate the air conditioning unit caught on fire.
There were no injuries reported.

Former Mountaineer Kriisa arrested by FBI in fraud investigation

A former West Virginia University basketball player has been arrested by the FBI in a fraud investigation.
Kerr Kriisa, 25, of Estonia, spent the 2023-24 season with the Mountaineers. He was arrested in connection to a multi-year, multi-million dollar fraud scheme, per Jack Pilgrim of Kentucky Sports Radio.
The alleged fraud dates back to Kriisa’s year in Morgantown several seasons ago.
Kriisa is being extradited back to West Virginia. A court appearance is scheduled for next week.

MAN, W.Va. — A Logan County family is expressing new thankfulness on this July Fourth holiday, the nation’s 250th birthday, after this week’s return of a missing family member.
