PB’s McDaniel named to all-state first team

NEW CUMBERLAND — Philip Barbour’s Avery McDaniel has been named to the Class AA all-state first team, as selected by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association and announced on Tuesday.
McDaniel, a senior, was listed as one of the utility players, while teammate Katelyn Cooper, a senior, was tabbed the second-team catcher.
McDaniel was a force at the plate and in the circle, finishing with a .494 batting average, seven home runs and 37 RBI while striking out 117 batters to the tune of a 2.77

Donald Paul Dietsch

Donald Paul Dietsch, 78, of Buckhannon, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.
He was born in Cleveland, West Virginia, on May 30, 1947, a son of late Paul H. Dietsch and Ruby Eleanor Clark Dietsch Kremmel.
In 1967, he married his love, Beverly Basinger. They were together until her passing on July 2, 2023.
Along with his parents and wife, Donald was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Paul Vargon.
Forever cherishing their memories of Donald are two

One incumbent defeated in Elkins election

ELKINS – Unofficial results from Tuesday’s municipal election shows the incumbent Fourth Ward Elkins City Council member keeping her seat, while the incumbent Fifth Ward Council member is defeated.

Fourth Ward incumbent wins re-election

ELKINS – The incumbent Fourth Ward Elkins City Council member has won re-election in today’s municipal election.
According to unofficial results, Fourth Ward incumbent Nanci Bross-Fregonara received 131 votes, while challenger Jon Clingerman totaled 35 votes.
Also according to unofficial results, challenger Burley Woods has defeated incumbent David Parker in Fifth Ward. Unofficially, Woods garnered 49 votes, while Parker tallied 35.

ELKINS – An incumbent Fifth Ward Elkins City Council member has been defeated in today’s municipal election.
According to unofficial results, challenger Burley Woods has defeated incumbent David Parker in Fifth Ward.
Unofficially, Woods garnered 49 votes, while Parker tallied 35.

Philippi man sentenced to up to 25 years for sexual abuse

PHILIPPI — A Philippi man has been sentenced to up to 25 years in prison after previously entering a guilty plea to a sexual assault charge.
Randall Wayne Kisamore, II, 38, was sentenced by Judge Shawn D. Nines to no less than five or more than 25 years in the West Virginia Penitentiary for the offense of sexual abuse in the first degree.
The sentencing took place June 4 in Barbour County Circuit Court.
Barbour County Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Lynn Phillips appeared on behalf of the state.

South Carolina senator sues his own legislature over pay raise

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A state senator is suing his fellow lawmakers in the South Carolina General Assembly saying they are illegally giving themselves what is effectively an $18,000-a-year raise for all members.
The increase in the “in-district compensation” — money set aside for legislative duties that has few limits on how it can be spent — is set to go from $1,000 a month to $2,500 a month for all 46 senators and 124 House members starting July 1.
