Scams

As “political season” ramps up, election filings begin, tax preparation is underway, and any number of 2026 tasks come to mind at the start of the year, state officials are warning residents to beware of phishing campaigns and other cyber crimes in which deceptive website addresses and other techniques lead people to believe they are dealing with a state agency when they are not.
Generally, the goal is to gain login credentials or other personal information — maybe even money. Criminals do so by

Steelers look to end a long run of playoff futility

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Mike Tomlin has no interest in shucking the weight of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ recent playoff failures onto the shoulders of his players heading into Monday night’s opening-round visit by Houston.
“I’m certainly not going to unpack my bags on the collective’s bed, if you will,” said Tomlin, who will take a six-game postseason losing streak onto the Acrisure Stadium turf to face the streaking Texans.
The Steelers (10-7) seem intent on carrying it anyway, their future Hall of

Xylazine

It is breathtaking to watch the manner in which the substance abuse epidemic in our region continues to evolve.
Just last month, officials in Gallia County, Ohio, warned a growing danger has reared its head — Xylazine. The powerful veterinary sedative, which is, of course, not intended for human use at all, has been found in the region; sometimes mixed with fentanyl and other opioids.
This is a drug meant for large animals such as horses. There is no safe dosage of “tranq” for humans. In fact,

Successful 3-point Heave

MORGANTOWN — Treysen Eaglestaff was caught in no-man’s land, so too maybe were his West Virginia teammates on Tuesday night.
“I honestly don’t remember everything that happened,” the WVU guard said in the moments that followed the Mountaineers’ 62-60 victory against Cincinnati inside the Hope Coliseum.
In what went down as Ross Hodge’s first-ever Big 12 victory, maybe it was somewhat fitting that not all the critical moments could be remembered, because there were so many of them.
Eaglestaff’s
