Former Buckhannon mayor sentenced on child pornography charge

CLARKSBURG – Former Buckhannon Mayor David Walter McCauley was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison on Thursday for possessing images of a minor engaged in sexually explicit acts.
In December, McCauley, 66, pled guilty to one count of possession of child pornography.
According to court documents, McCauley enticed a 17-year-old boy to engage in sexually explicit conduct for photo and video production. McCauley had several electronic devices that contained illegal images and videos seized

Roger Lee Collins, 80, a resident of Montrose passed from this life Thursday, June 4, 2025, at his residence. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.

McCutchen moves past Clemente on Pirates’ HR list in win

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Andrew McCutchen hit a milestone three-run home run in the fifth inning to help the Pittsburgh Pirates defeat the Miami Marlins 5-2 on Wednesday.

Upshur woman accused of selling drugs near a school

BUCKHANNON – An Upshur County woman is behind bars after allegedly selling methamphetamine to a confidential informant near a school.
Tiffani Dawn Sparks, 43, is charged with delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and distribution of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, both felonies.
She is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $75,000 cash-only bond.

State BOE takes action against Randolph County Schools

CHARLESTON – The West Virginia Board of Education placed Randolph County Schools in a state of emergency Wednesday following the release of a report raising concerns about the financial situation in the county.

Planned power outage in Randolph County Thursday

ELKINS – The Randolph County Office of Emergency Management and 911 has announced that a planned power outage is scheduled for Thursday.
The following information was released at about 7:40 a.m.:
“Mon Power will be having a planned power outage on Thursday, June 12th, from approximately 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. to perform maintenance on equipment. This will include customers in the vicinity of Appalachian Highway, Bonner Mountain Rd, Esten Cooper Rd, Pennington Rd, Mott St, Water St, and Whitmer Rd.
