Learning players names a challenge for coaches

MORGANTOWN — In today’s college football, it is the coaches who face what may be the most difficult challenge in summer camp.
It isn’t in putting in a system or deciding on a lineup or even creating a culture.
It’s far more simple than that.
It’s in learning the players names and what they are like.
In the WVU camp there are more than 70 newcomers to the program, but there 115 new to the coaching staff.
“I had forgotten about it. I remember we used to put tape on the front and back of their

Gunman who killed 4 in New York was trying to get to NFL offices

NEW YORK (AP) — A gunman who killed four people inside a Manhattan office tower blamed his mental health problems on the National Football League and intended to target the league’s headquarters upstairs but took the wrong elevator, officials said Tuesday.
Investigators said Shane Tamura, a Las Vegas casino worker, was carrying a handwritten note in his wallet that claimed he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, known at CTE, and accused the league of hiding the dangers of brain

Every school is basically a junior college nowadays

MORGANTOWN — There was a time in college basketball when junior college coaches were sort of like being the kid down the block.
There’s nothing wrong with that kid. It’s perfectly fine to hang out with him after school.
It’s just when it comes time for the birthday parties, the kid down the block rarely gets an invite.
That was, at one time, the perception of a junior college hoops coach, the life once had by WVU men’s coach Ross Hodge.
“They only have guys for a year, or two,” Hodge said in

Autopsies are for the dead

It’s being described by the media as an “autopsy,” an examination by Democrats as to why they lost the last presidential election and a congressional majority. According to The New York Times, the autopsy will not include Joe Biden’s decision to seek a second term, or Kamala Harris’ poor performance in seeking the presidency when Biden dropped out.
Biden and Harris were only the faces of the obstacles Democrats face. Their real problems go much deeper.
Let’s turn to a definition of autopsy: “a

Shaw preparing to take Quinerly’s role

MORGANTOWN — As it is with so many collegiate basketball teams in this transitory era, West Virginia’s talented women’s basketball team is undergoing a face lift.
Over the past few years, the face of the program has been JJ Quinerly but she has taken her smile to the WNBA where she is making a strong impact as a rookie while her West Virginia coach, Mark Kellogg, is reshaping both his offense and defense.
And what is emerging in these early summer workouts is a one-two punch of point guard

Attorneys: ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ detainees held without charges, barred from legal access

(AP) — Civil rights lawyers seeking a temporary restraining order against an immigration detention center in the Florida Everglades say that “Alligator Alcatraz” detainees have been barred from meeting attorneys, are being held without any charges and that a federal immigration court has canceled bond hearings.
