When passion meets paycheck

Dear Annie: I’m writing about my sister, “Claire,” who seems to be living two completely different lives. By day, she’s a high-powered attorney, wearing tailored suits and commanding boardrooms. But on weekends, she disappears to a tiny town in Michigan, where she rents a cabin and paints. None of her colleagues know about her art, and she told me she doesn’t want them to find out.
Recently, Claire confided that she’s thinking of quitting her firm to paint full time. The problem is, she’s spent

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a rare Superman comic book! And it fetched $9.12M!

(AP) — A copy of the first Superman issue, unearthed by three brothers cleaning out their late mother’s attic, netted $9.12 million this month at a Texas auction house which says it is the most expensive comic book ever sold.
The brothers discovered the comic book in a cardboard box beneath layers of brittle newspapers, dust and cobwebs in their deceased mother’s San Francisco home last year, alongside a handful of other rare comics that she and her sibling had collected on the cusp of World War

Disinherited but not disheartened

Dear Annie: My parents, especially my mother, were abusive throughout my childhood physically, verbally and emotionally. I lived in fear from the time I was 5 years old. I worked hard, stayed out of trouble and built my own life without asking them for help, but my mother still treated me with cruelty and favoritism toward my younger sister.
When I finally cut off contact in my 40s, I thought I was reclaiming my peace. But after my parents passed, I found out my sister — their “favorite” — had

Steelers drop tilt to Bears

CHICAGO (AP) — On this trip to Chicago, Aaron Rodgers was just a spectator at Soldier Field. Mason Rudolph tried to rally Pittsburgh to a late win, but it didn’t work out.
