Mountaineers add another kicker from transfer portal

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia added its third specialist from the transfer portal, and its second kicker.
Western Kentucky and Northern Ireland kicker Jack Cassidy signed with the Mountaineers Sunday afternoon, according to a post from WVU football. Just a few days before, WVU added Alabama transfer Peter Notaro.

Colorado State punter transfers to WVU, along with pass rusher

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia has picked up a commitment from its first specialist of this transfer portal period. The Mountaineers also had a defensive end commit shortly after.
Colorado State punter Bryan Hansen announced his commitment to WVU on social media. A few minutes later, Western Kentucky pass rusher Harper Holloman announced his commitment in the same way.

FAA investigating plane crash at Barbour airport

PHILIPPI — The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is continuing to investigate a plane crash that took place at the Philippi/Barbour County Regional Airport on Thursday afternoon.
The accident, which occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m., involved a single-engine Cirrus SR22 air plane. According to a statement from the FAA, the plane landed and continued off the end of the runway at the airport.

Wheeling police investigate human remains found

WHEELING — Wheeling Police converged on an area in South Wheeling after human remains were found on the site.
Wheeling Police Maj. Josh Sanders, commander of the department’s investigations bureau, said that 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to the corner of 42nd and Wood streets. Someone who was walking in the area had called WPD to say they had found a skull.

Elkins High girls, boys swim past B-U

ELKINS — Elkins swam past Big 10 Conference rival Buckhannon-Upshur Wednesday evening at George A. Myles Pool on the Davis & Elkins College campus.
The Lady Tigers tallied 95 points to claim a 31-point win over the Lady Bucs.
Juniors Lilly Irons and Lilly Anger captured two events each for Elkins and were part of two winning relay units.
Irons took the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:09.55 and the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.26).
Anger was first in the 50 freestyle (26.72) and 100 freestyle
