Elkins, Buckhannon advertising co-op deemed a success

ELKINS — An advertising co-op near Washington D.C. promoting both Elkins and Buckhannon was a great success, the West Virginia Department of Tourism reported to Elkins City Council.
During Council’s most recent meeting, members watched a presentation from the Department of Tourism’s Cooperative Advertising Manager Destiny Workman. Former pastor arraigned on indictment

ELKINS — A former Elkins pastor entered a plea of not guilty to the four charges against him during an arraignment hearing Tuesday afternoon.
Kevin Curtis Jones, 34, of Elkins, appeared in Randolph County Circuit Court on Tuesday for an arraignment hearing where he entered a plea of not guilty to the four charges brought forward by the Randolph County Grand Jury in June. Update on addiction counseling program provided

BUCKHANNON — Buckhannon City Council has been given an update on West Virginia Wesleyan College’s addiction counseling program, which received $1.2 million in state grants earlier this year.

Art and Craft Fair keeps tradition rolling

RIPLEY – Attendees and vendors at the 64th annual Mountain State Art and Craft Festival had to adapt to temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s during the annual Independence Day weekend event.

Second B&E charge headed to grand jury

ELKINS — The Grand Jury will hear another case against a Randolph County man accused of breaking in and stealing items from a local hotel in April, after he waived his right to a second preliminary hearing.
Joshua Richard Slayton, 32, is charged with one count of burglary and entry of dwelling or outbuilding, a felony. He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $5,000 cash-only bond for this charge.
