Morrisey: Audits find more than $168 million in savings

CHARLESTON – West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey said Monday that audits of executive branch services and four specific departments found more than $168 million in savings.
Morrisey held a press conference announcing the results of audits after the governor issued executive orders shortly after taking office last year.

Most important offensive players, positions for the WVU football’s 2026 season

MORGANTOWN — Rich Rodriguez has done a lot this offseason for West Virginia football to help keep his promise and make the Mountaineers competitive once again.

Campaign seeks to establish dedicated trail crew

ELKINS – The Mon Forest Towns Partnership has announced a fundraising campaign to support the launch of a dedicated seasonal trail crew in the Monongahela National Forest’s North Zone beginning in 2027.
The three-person seasonal crew will perform a “first pass” of trail maintenance – widening corridors, clearing downfall, and improving drainage – at a rate of 3 to 5 miles per day, with a goal of improving more than 300 miles in the first season alone.

Carter Banks pushes for dismissal in case regarding Greenbrier

CHARLESTON – The former lender to U.S. Sen. Jim Justice that sold off its loan debt for the historic Greenbrier Resort to a Texas-based hotel chain is asking a circuit court judge to dismiss a case brought by the Justice family to halt interference in the hotel.
Attorneys for Virginia-based Carter Bank and Trust filed a motion Thursday in Greenbrier County Circuit Court seeking dismissal of a lawsuit brought by the Justice family last month against Carter Bank and Texas-based TRT Holdings.

Agencies respond to false shooter call at ERCC

ELKINS — Multiple law enforcement and first responder agencies from in and out of Randolph County responded to a false active shooter report at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center (ERCC) Sunday night, officials state.
On Sunday at 10:53 p.m., Randolph County Sheriff Rob Elbon released a statement regarding a false active shooter call that was made that night at ERCC on the Beverly Five-lane.

Keyser edges Tigers, 2-1, in regional opener

ELKINS — Fifth-seed Keyser plated two run in the fifth inning to hand fourth-seed Elkins a 2-1 setback Monday night in Class AAA, Region II play at EHS field.
Braden Cooper had retired the order in three of the first four innings before the Golden Tornado pushed two runs across in the top of the fifth on three hits, an error and a wild pitch that scored a run.

Grand jury to hear failure to register case

ELKINS — Probable cause was found in the case of a Randolph County man accused of not living where he claimed to be on his sex offender registry.
Billy Lee Isenhart, 41, is charged with two counts of failure to register as a sex offender. He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $50,000 10% cash bond.

Capito calls for unity among Republicans
