Conference Center set to open in July

ELKINS – Officials confirmed this week that construction of the new Railyard Event and Conference Center is on track to be completed by July 1.
Randolph County Development Authority Director Robbie Morris told The Inter-Mountain that everything is on schedule for the opening of the new 28,000 square-foot, $11.6 million facility.

ELKINS — The current roadwork on the Beverly Five-lane is expected to continue into September, officials say.

Fraudulent check case headed to grand jury

ELKINS — Probable cause has been found against a Fayette County man accused of attempting to cash a fraudulent check for more than $2,500, moving his case forward to be considered by the Grand Jury.
Trey Lamar Dixon, 33, of Scarbro, is charged with one count of attempting to commit a felony. He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $2,700 cash-only bond.

Police: Fentanyl found after crash

BUCKHANNON – An Upshur County man faces charges after police allegedly found more than 50 fentanyl stamps in his vehicle after it was involved in a DUI accident.
James Allen Ware, 42, is charged with one count of possession with intent to deliver, a felony, and one count of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Ware is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $51,500 cash-only bond for both charges.

ELKINS – On May 1, the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals celebrated Law Day for the sixth year with an awards ceremony recognizing West Virginia students for their submissions to this year’s contest. The theme of the 2025 contest was “The Rule of Law and the American Dream.”
Law Day was first established in 1958 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to encourage a deeper public understanding of the legal system and the role of law in American society.

Elkins Rotary Club packs Jared Boxes

ELKINS – The Rotary Club of Elkins packed 90 Jared Boxes for use at Vandalia Health Davis Medical Center for pediatric patients.
The project is named in memory of Jared McMullen, a 5-year-old cancer patient at Geisinger Medical Center in State College, Pennsylvania. When McMullen went for treatment, he always took a backpack filled with games, toys and activities to help pass the time. After his passing, McMullen’s schoolmates initiated a project to provide similar items to other children at
