Curtis Elwood ‘Peanut’ Sites

Curtis Elwood “Peanut” Sites, 93, of Petersburg, West Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg.
Peanut’s family will receive friends on Thursday May 22, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, West Virginia.
Funeral services will be on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 11 a.m. from Schaeffer Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Ours Family Cemetery, Rough Run, West Virginia, with military honors.

Lady Wildcats defeat Tucker to advance to states

FRANKLIN — Top-seed Pendleton County captured the Class A, Region II best-of-three series by sweeping Tucker County on Tuesday night.
The Lady Wildcats took the opening game, 9-1, in six innings and the nightcap, 13-0, in five innings to advance.
Avery Townsend had three hits and a pair of RBIs and Baylee Beachler tossed a five-inning one-hitter in Tuesday’s deciding game.

PB’s McGee to play in North-South tilt

PHILIPPI — Philip Barbour’s John McGee will participate in the North-South All-Star Football Classic next month at South Charleston High School.
McGee, a 6-foot-6, 325-pound lineman, will suit up for the North Bears. He recently signed his letter-of-intent with Division I member Morehead State University.
Pendleton County wide receiver/defensive back Josiah Kimble and Moorefield lineman Brody See will also play for the the Bears.

Almost Heaven Swing planned for Camp Pioneer in Beverly

ELKINS — Camp Pioneer in Beverly will be the home for one of the state’s Almost Heaven Swings thanks to funding from The Randolph County Commission.
“These are those big wooden swings that you see at the base of the Capital and other places around the state,” Randolph County Commission President David Kesling said. “We are looking at putting one on at the 4-H Camp since the county owns the property there. MILL CREEK — Top-seed Tygarts Valley secured the top bracket of the Class A, Region II tourney with a 14-2 win over fifth-seed Tucker County on Monday evening.

‘Sesame Street’ moves in with Netflix, but will stay on PBS

NEW YORK (AP) — Netflix has thrown “Sesame Street” a safety net with a new streaming deal that offers the popular children’s staple a broad reach while keeping it on its long-standing home, PBS, at the same time, the companies announced Monday.
Starting later this year, new episodes will run on Netflix, PBS and the PBS Kids app on the same day.
No specific premiere date was immediately announced.
