Petersburg girls garner victory over Pendleton

FRANKLIN — Class AA, No. 9 Petersburg held off a second-half push from Pendleton County to claim a 47-43 win over Friday night.
The Lady Vikings led 34-20 at halftime but the Lady Wildcats had a 14-8 scoring edge in the third canto to cut the lead to 42-34 entering the final frame.
Pendleton County outscored Petersburg, 9-5, in the final quarter.
Miley Tingler led the Lady Vikings with 14 points.
Jameigh Miller tossed in 15 and Susan Vincell added 12 to lead the hosts.

Though Gov. Patrick Morrisey may have had the weight of Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist behind him on his recent visit to Parkersburg, the reality is unchanged: Lawmakers have already put in place a mechanism to reduce what West Virginians pay in income tax, and the state did not meet markers to trigger another cut as recently as August.

BUCKHANNON — WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital has announced that Skip Gjolberg will step down as President and CEO of the hospital this spring.

D. FauntleroyELKINS – A Montrose couple have been arrested and accused of abducting their biological child and fleeing to South Carolina.
Megan Rae Fauntleroy, 40, has been charged with removal of a minor child from a custodian and conspiracy. She is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond, set by Randolph County Magistrate Tracy M. Harper.

CHARLESTON — Some lawmakers in the West Virginia Senate want to put copies of the first Bible printed in revolutionary America in certain classrooms, but an effort by others to amend the bill to also include the Catholic Bible failed.

Man charged after laundromat incident

BUCKHANNON — An Upshur County man faces felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly entering a laundromat after hours and stealing around $100 from a quarters machine, as well as being found with methamphetamine on his person later on.

Tucker County’s last coal mine to close

DAVIS — Workers at the Mettiki Coal Mountain View Mine in Tucker County reportedly learned on Thursday that the mine is permanently closing on April 1.
The Tucker County Commission received a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice from the company that its 199 workers will be laid off with the closure. The WARN notice helps ensure advance notice in cases of qualified plant closings and mass layoffs.
