Tyrand Cooperative Ministries offers holiday store, meals

MILL CREEK — Tyrand Cooperative Ministries is continuing to help out local families this holiday season with its annual free Christmas Store and its upcoming annual holiday meal Christmas basket distribution.
Tyrand Executive Director Makayla Mayle told The Inter-Mountain that more than 150 kids received Christmas presents through Tyrand’s Christmas Store, and around 225 families are signed up to receive a Christmas basket to help them prepare a holiday meal.

Attacker who killed U.S. troops in Syria was a recent recruit to security forces

Lewis Tingler

Lewis Tingler, 99, a resident of Wymer, West Virginia, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, at the West Virginia Caring Hospice Inpatient Center in Elkins.
He would have been 100 years old on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025.
Lewis was born Dec. 13, 1925, at Whitmer, West Virginia, a son of the late Ted Tingler and Ethel Elza Tingler.
On May 14, 1947, at Oakland, Maryland, he was married to Thelma F. Long, who preceded him in death July 11, 2021.
He is survived by one son, David (Carolyn) Tingler,

Vaccine debate headed to WV high court

WHEELING — The debate over religious exemptions from West Virginia’s school vaccine requirements is headed to the state’s highest court.
The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals on Friday granted a motion for direct review of Raleigh County judge Michael Froble’s Nov. 26 order siding with parents seeking religious exemptions, bypassing the state’s Intermediate Court of Appeals. Class AAAA all-state football

WHEELING — Buckhannon-Upshur’s Dawson Tenney and Kadyn Baisden are second-team selections on the Class AAAA All-State football squad, which is voted on by coaches and members of the West Virginia Sports Writers Association and selected by the WVSWA.
Tenney, a senior, was selected as one of the utility players on offense, while Baisden, a junior, was tabbed one of the defensive lineman.

Two cars destroyed in fire

VALLEY BEND — A two-stall garage was deemed a total loss after a structure fire in Valley Bend Thursday night.
While on a call for a flue fire in Mill Creek, the Tygart Valley Fire Company was alerted to a structure fire in Valley Bend at approximately 8:09 p.m., officials said. Once on scene, the TVFC located a garage that was fully engulfed.

CHARLESTON – A winter storm warning is in effect for Randolph, Barbour, Upshur, Tucker and Pocahontas counties beginning Saturday afternoon and continuing until early Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
