WVU associate professor indicted in prescription drug investigation

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A West Virginia University associate professor has been indicted on two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony drug crime by a Monongalia County grand jury.
Jeanette Garcia
Jeanette Garcia, an associate professor in the WVU College of Applied Human Sciences, is accused conspiring with at least one student to provide and obtain the prescription drug Adderall between January 1, 2025, and August 31, 2025.
Garcia was named in a two-count indictment handed up by the grand jury

Teamsters say no talks scheduled with The Beverage Market

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Drivers who deliver Coors, Miller, and Modello beer to stores and bars across 30 West Virginia counties remain on the picket line in a labor dispute with distributor The Beverage Market.
Members of Teamsters Local 175 went on strike this week only days after rejecting the latest contract offer from the company.

Investigation continues into Mercer wreck which killed teen brothers

PRINCETON, W.Va. — The investigation into a fatal accident in Mercer County continues.
State Police released more information about the accident Friday which claimed the lives of two students at Princeton Senior High School. The driver of the vehicle was Aden King, 19, of Bluefield. Troopers say King was killed along with a juvenile passenger. Sources confirm the second victim was his brother Price King, age 17.

Kanawha County property being searched for evidence in connection with missing teenager

BIG CHIMNEY, W.Va. — Kanawha County sheriff’s deputies along with specially-trained crews are searching property near Big Chimney Friday afternoon in connection with a missing 16-year-old girl.

The sheriff’s office released information last week about the disappearance of Shayln Shantel Harvey who was last seen on May 2.

U.S. DOJ says West Virginia is wrong in resisting request for unredacted voter info

West Virginia’s Secretary of State, Kris Warner, asked a federal judge to toss U.S. government demands for unredacted voter registration data.
Now, the U.S. Department of Justice is arguing against West Virginia’s position. DOJ entered a response brief in the case this week.
The federal judge assigned to the case is Thomas Johnston, a George W. Bush appointee.

Kanawha County man sentenced for 2024 stabbing outside GoMart store

CHARLESTON, W.Va – A Kanawha County man will spend up to the next 40 years in prison for stabbing another man to death outside the GoMart convenience store in Kanawha City nearly two years ago.
William Selbe was sentenced by Kanawha County Circuit Judge Jennifer Bailey to the maximum of 40 years in prison on Friday after pleading guilty to a charge of second-degree murder in the June 2024 death of Nicholas Hodge, Jr.

In fight over Greenbrier Hotel, bank argues Justices signed contracts blocking lawsuits in W.Va.

The latest jousting over control of The Greenbrier Hotel is over whether local court in Greenbrier County is the right ground for the fight.
The longtime banker for Senator Jim Justice’s family business network is asking a judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed over control of The Greenbrier Hotel in a local courtroom because the location violates venue agreements in contracts signed by the Justices.

Ready or not, here comes summer, potentially record-breaking temperatures

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — As the wait for spring continues, meteorologists now say a dose of midsummer weather will move into the region this weekend and into next week.
