West Virginia hospital organizations are expressing deep concern about the potential effects of the “Big Beautiful Bill” under consideration in the U.S. Senate.

Counties hit in Feb. 15 flood approved for higher reimbursement rate from FEMA

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state and 10 West Virginia counties are going to be reimbursed at a higher rate for public money spent in response to the Feb. 15 flood in southern West Virginia.
Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced Friday that his request for a cost share adjustment with FEMA was approved by the Trump White House.
The Public Assistance reimbursement will go to 90 percent from the original 75 percent level.

Ohio County authorities release name of man found in floodwaters; 9 victims now identified

WHEELING, W.Va. — Authorities in Ohio County say all nine flood victims have now been identified.
The Ohio County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed the identity of the body of the man found in the floodwaters earlier this week.
Deputies said Jesse Pearson, 43, lived in Triadelphia. The state Medical Examiner’s Office was able to make the identification.

Hurricane’s Weston Smith named WVSWA Player of the Year

Hurricane’s Weston Smith accomplished just about everything he could his senior season.
Smith helped the Redskins to the first-ever Class AAAA baseball title, earned Class AAAA first-team all-state honors and was captain of that team.
He can now say that he’s added being named by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association as the Player of the Year.
Smith beat out Charleston Catholic’s Zaden Ranson, Ripley’s Bryson Casto and Spring Valley’s Garrett Wagoner.

University of Charleston cuts the ribbon to brand-new rehab science and athletics center

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The University of Charleston has opened the new Morrison Rehabilitation Science and Athletics Center.
The new facility, which is located in Goreman Hall, will house UC’s occupational therapy and physical therapy graduate programs.

Berkeley County to host several Juneteenth celebration events through the weekend

BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. –Events celebrating Juneteenth, the federal holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the U.S. on June 19th, 1865, will continue throughout the weekend in Berkeley County.
