Kellogg values what lies ahead before start of regular season

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia’s women’s basketball team is less than three weeks from its October 26 exhibition against Fairmont State and exactly four weeks out from the November 3 season opener against Purdue Fort Wayne.

Martinsburg man dead in officer-involved shooting

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting Berkeley County.
Deputies say David Andrew Browne, 29, of Martinsburg, was shot and killed Sunday by deputies after he attacked one of the deputies with a hatchet.
Investigators said Browne had attacked a woman in her driveway early Sunday morning. He then returned home on Jenny Wren Drive where he was destroying property in his own home that he shared with his mother.
Deputies said Browne was naked at both locations.

Huntington man killed in motorcycle crash in Braxton County

BURNSVILLE, W.Va. — A Huntington man is dead after wrecking his motorcycle on Interstate 79 in Braxton County.
State police said Chad Carpenter, 50, was traveling alone Sunday afternoon when he lost control of his bike southbound between the Burnsville and Flatwood exits at around 4:30 p.m.
Carpenter’s bike went off the western edge of the interstate and slammed into a guardrail. Troopers said died at the scene of the wreck.
The investigation into the wreck is ongoing.

Body found in Elk River in rural Braxton County

SUTTON, W.Va. — State police are investigating the discovery of a man’s body in the Elk River.
Fishermen spotted the body in the water near near Shiloh Church.
The state Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy Monday.
Troopers said the focus of their investigation was the positive identification of the victim.
Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the West Virginia State Police Sutton Detachment at 304-765-2101.

Ewing says landing at Supreme Court gets him out of his ‘comfort zone’

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — New state Supreme Court Justice Thomas Ewing says he considers himself a frog on a fence post. He says many have helped him get where he is today.

Trial begins for defendant in shooting near Shawnee Sports Complex

CHARLESTON, W.Va – The trial is underway for one of the men charged in connection with a 2024 shooting near the Shawnee Sports Complex in Dunbar that left families fleeing in fear.
Kaden Bowman appeared before Kanawha County Circuit Judge Maryclaire Akers on Monday, charged with wanton endangerment involving a firearm after he allegedly was part of a drive-by shooting on Smoot Avenue in Dunbar.
