Charleston Mayor eyes city takeover of Town Center, highlights 2026 projects

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin says the city has been in discussions with the Hull Group, the owner of Charleston Town Center, about transferring ownership of the mall to the city.
Goodwin made the announcement during her State of the City address Monday evening at a City Council meeting. The Hull Group acquired the shopping center, which opened in 1983, in 2021.
Since then, the town center has seen three anchor stores, Sears, Macy’s and JCPenney, close.

Bluefield fugitive captured in Clarksburg Monday

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. –A Bluefield man was apprehended in Clarksburg Monday on multiple felonies.
Gary Eugene Wilson, 50, was arrested by the US Marshals Service near 215 W. Main Street. He was wanted by Hinton Police for attempting to commit a felony punishable by life in prison, wanton endangerment with a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, and escape from custody.
Wilson allegedly traveled to a home in Hinton on December 16 and fired multiple rounds into a residence while the occupants

I-79 closed after multi-vehicle crash

WESTOVER, W.Va. — Interstate 79 in Monongalia County was closed in both directions Monday night after a multi-vehicle crash.
The wreck happened at around 7 p.m. near the Westover exit. It appeared all of the vehicles involved were passenger vehicles.
There was no initial word on possible injuries.

One dead following crash in Lincoln County

LINCOLN COUNTY, W.Va. –One person is dead following a two-vehicle crash in Lincoln County on Monday.
The incident was reported along Dairy Road, which is just north of West Hamlin Grade School, a little before noon.
No other details are available.
West Virginia State Police are investigating the crash.

Child dies in I-81 crash, charges likely forthcoming

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A young child is dead after a weekend crash on I-81 in Berkeley County, and authorities say someone will likely be charged.
The accident was reported at around 4 a.m. Sunday at the six-mile marker in southbound lanes. A tractor trailer and a pickup truck were involved in the wreck.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, a five-year-old child died at the scene after being ejected from the pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital

Mountaineer Heritage Season offers a chance to hunt like our ancestors

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — This week, West Virginia hunters will get a chance to try hunting the way the original Mountaineers did it. The Mountaineer Heritage season is open from Thursday through Sunday.
