Charleston teen charged in murder and robbery case again has a new trial date

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — One of the two teenagers indicted in a 2024 north Charleston robbery and murder case has once again had his trial date re-set.
Barack Williams, 15, was indicted on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree robbery for the January 30, 2024 incident that occurred at the Tobacco and Pipe Shop on 7th Avenue where 19-year-old Caden Martin, the shop attendant at the store was shot and killed.
The other teenager charged is Bre’juan Williams-Hampton, also 15.

Marshall closing in on Gerald Harrison as Director of Athletics

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall is on the verge of hiring Gerald Harrison as its next Director of Athletics.
Several national outlets, including Chris Low of ESPN, say Harrison has agreed to become Marshall’s next Athletic Director.
Marshall’s Board of Governors has scheduled a special meeting for 8:30 a.m. Monday, with the agenda indicating it is to “approve AD contract.”
Harrison was hired as AD at Austin Peay in 2018 after serving in various roles at Duke from 2008-17. He also

Gibson unbothered by Sun Belt Preseason Poll

In the lead-up to the start of fall practice next week, first-year Marshall football head coach Tony Gibson was joined by junior offensive lineman Jalen Slappy and junior defensive back Cam Smith at this week’s Sun Belt Conference Football Media Days in New Orleans.

Officials explain Clarksburg water leaks, project sequence

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — The comprehensive Clarksburg water system upgrade due to old lead lines is one of three major projects residents and businesses are enduring this summer.
The Thrasher Group is engineering the water project. Spokesman Bobby Tinney said recent leaks and service disruptions are a result of the upgrade. When the system is taken off-line and then repressurized, the older lines in the system sometimes burst or split, Tinney said.

Three people injured in rollover crash in Wheeling

WHEELING, W.Va. — One person was ejected from an overturning vehicle in a Friday morning wreck on the Interstate 70 exit ramp in downtown Wheeling.
According to Wheeling police, the driver lost control of the vehicle while exiting to Main Street at around 2:20 a.m. The vehicle rolled over and struck a guardrail.
One person was thrown from vehicle and suffered serious injuries. Two other people inside the car suffered minor injuries.

Two New Jersey women, New York man arrested in bank fraud scheme

LEWISBURG, W.Va. — Three people have been arrested as part of a multi-state fraud investigation that involved banks in Greenbrier and Roane counties.
Marianne Murphy and Fanny Singer, of New Jersey, and Michael Earlington, of New York, have been arrested after the Lewisburg Police Department was made aware of fraudulent activity at two People’s Bank branches within their county in mid-April.

Charleston man facing prison time for escaping re-entry facility

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charleston man has pleaded guilty to escape after he did not return to a federal re-entry facility in Kanawha County.
Ronald Edward Tinsley, 52, pleaded guilty on Thursday. He failed to return from an approved work pass to the Dismas Charities Inc. residential re-entry facility in St. Albans back in March and was later arrested on May 13.
Tinsley was at the facility after being convicted for possession of a stolen firearm in 2021.
Tinsley is now facing a maximum of five
