Stuart resigns Senate seat headed to HHS

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Senator Mike Stuart has resigned his seat in the state Senate.

Stuart’s resignation will take effect Thursday morning after he was confirmed Tuesday by the U.S. Senate to be the next general counsel for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services after being nominated by President Donald Trump.
Stuart, R-Kanawha, served as Senate Judiciary Committee chairman. Gov. Patrick Morrisey will appoint his replacement.

Kanawha County jury finds man not guilty in shooting near Shawnee Sports Complex

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County jury found a man not guilty Wednesday in connection with a gun fight near the Shawnee Sports Complex last year.

Kaden Bowman was charged with two counts of wanton endangerment with a firearm.
The jury found him not guilty on both charges. The 12-member panel deliberated the case for about 90 minutes.
Two other men in the case, Antonio Jacobs and Zion Clark, pleaded guilty earlier this year and were sentenced to multiple years in prison.

Site for Monongalia County warming shelter announced

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.  — The location for the 2025-26 warming shelter in Monongalia has been determined after a special meeting of Morgantown Community Resources Wednesday morning.

MCR board member and Monongalia County Commissioner Jeff Arnett said the Nitor Suites facility on West Run Road, operated by the West Virginia Coalition to End Homelessness, will be the primary location for the warming shelter this year.

RANSON, W.Va. — A Martinsburg man has been arrested after allegedly injuring a police chief in Virginia, carjacking a work van, and leading police on a multi-jurisdictional car chase through parts of Virginia and West Virginia.

Youth pastor accused of sexual misconduct faces in new allegations in Braxton County

SUTTON, W.Va. — A former youth pastor accused of sexual misconduct with young girls facing nearly 100 charges in Lewis, Harrison and Nicholas counties faces a new indictment for the same charges.

Woman dead after Boone County crash

ROCK CREEK, W.Va. — A woman is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Boone County.
State police said Charity Holstein, 39, died Tuesday afternoon after losing control of the car she was driving in the Rock Creek area.
Troopers said the car left the highway and was on its side in a creek when emergency personnel arrived.
A man riding with Holstein survived the wreck. He was taken to a Charleston hospital after suffering minor injuries.
State police are continuing an investigation into the crash.
