No. 2 Chapmanville dominates late stages in 63-47 win over No. 1 Capital

CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Through the first three quarters of Tuesday’s No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown between Capital and Chapmanville, neither team led by more than seven points and both teams had lengthy scoring runs of at least seven points. However, in the fourth quarter the second-ranked Tigers outscored the top-ranked Cougars 22-6 to collect an impressive 63-47 victory.

Person pulled from pond in Hampshire County

CAPON BRIDGE, W.Va. — A body was pulled from a pond in Hampshire County Tuesday morning.
Reports indicate first responders were on the scene in the Timber Ridge Road area near Capon Bridge.
EMS crews were attending to the victim.

Delegates look at bill to change school funding, but governor is cool to extra spending on that right now

Delegates are considering a bill that could revamp state financial support for public schools, but Gov. Patrick Morrisey again expressed caution about that kind of spending priority right now.
HB 5453 is a significant revision of the current public school funding formula to make it simpler, more transparent and more aligned with student needs — especially special education — while moving away from the current step‑based, multi‑schedule formula.

Sextortion bill linked to civil lawsuits passes House of Delegates

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The House of Delegates passed another bill Tuesday connected to the crime of sextortion.

The bill, HB 4842, says a person taking part in the unauthorized disclosure of intimate images can be sued.
The official name of the bill is “Relating to civil remedies for the unauthorized disclosure of intimate images.”
Bryce Tate, 15, a sophomore at Nitro High School, was found Nov. 6 with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

House bill to return school transfer provision to what it used to be

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The House of Delegates Education Committee could vote Wednesday on a bill that repeal what lawmakers did in 2023 when they liberalized transfers for athletics in West Virginia high schools.

Statewide camping ban bill set for vote in House Judiciary Committee

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A bill calling for a statewide camping ban on certain public property is on its way to a possible vote by the House Judiciary Committee.
