CHARLESTON, W.Va. –A solar power project in Kanawha County was permitted by the state Public Service Commission on Monday.
The PSC issued a certificate to allow for Mammoth Solar, LLC to begin the project. According to a release from the PSC, the 90-megawatt solar generating facility is expected to consist of approximately 193,000 individual solar photovoltaic modules. These modules would interconnect with an existing Appalachian Power Kanawha River to Carbondale transmission line, which crosses
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — For the first time since 2005, the Hatfield-McCoy Trails will have a new executive director, as longtime leader Jeffrey Lusk has announced his retirement.
Lusk goes back to the inception of the trails, as he began helping with the development in 1993. Lusk was there when the first trail system was opened in 2000.
“I started in 2005 as executive director and at that time, we had five trail systems, barely 400 miles of trail, and that year we hosted about 11,000 riders,” Lusk

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Division of Natural Resources received reports of the woods being busy Monday across the state on the first day of bucks gun season.
DNR Lt. Col. Dave Trader said dense fog in central and southern counties may have kept the numbers down in the first few hours Monday but sunny skies brought out more hunters by midday.
“The officers have seen quite a few people out,” Trader said. “Hopefully we’ll see a high success rate.”
