Morrisey says WV Guard members in Qatar safe and accounted for after Iran missile attack

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Patrick Morrisey released a statement Monday afternoon in connection with the missle attack by Iran on a U.S. military base in Qatar.
“In the wake of the recent attack by Iran, my office is in close contact with West Virginia’s military forces in the Middle East,” Morrisey said. “All of our West Virginia National Guard Airmen and Soldiers who are currently stationed in or deployed to Qatar, are accounted for and safe.”

School Building Authority approves nearly $20 million for Major Improvement Projects

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state School Building Authority awarded approximately $20 million for Major Improvement Projects (MIP) in 18 West Virginia counties during a meeting Monday in Charleston.

One arrested after VBS threat in Harrison County

WYATT, W.Va. — A 20-year-old man has been arrested after threatening a pastor in Harrison County.
State police said Xander Mouser got into a physical altercation with a juvenile, the juvenile’s mother and the pastor, Roy Clark, at Wyatt Church during a Vacation Bible School event June 19.
Mouser was removed from church property after the altercation and police were called to the scene.

Heat wave sets in for the week

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The week started out with extreme heat warnings in 21 West Virginia counties. The rest of the state’s counties remained under a heat advisory and that’s expected to be the case for the duration of this week. Man in custody in connection with Brooke County shooting death

WELLSBURG, W.Va. — Police released more information Monday in connection with a deadly shooting in Brooke County from Friday night.

Michael Groch, 39, is charged with first degree murder in the death of Kerry Casto, 58, of Mingo Junction, Ohio.
Brooke County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Fowler’s Hill Road near Wellsburg Friday where they found Casto dead at the scene.
Groch was at the residence and taken into custody

Kanawha County man drowns in Upshur County

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — Upshur County authorities say a Kanawha County man is the victim of an apparent drowning in the Middle Fork River.
Deputies responded to a call of a possible drowning Sunday at 700 Boy Scout Camp Road close to the Barbour County line. An investigation revealed Harold Feagans, 71, of St. Albans, W.Va. had walked down the bank of the river, slipped, and fell into the water.
He was recovered from the river and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Several people with guns involved in Huntington shooting

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A shooting victim is in serious condition following a Sunday afternoon shooting in Huntington.
A Monday morning statement from Huntington Police Chief Phil Watkins said the shooting occurred at around 3:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Jackson Avenue. Watkins said the dispute-led shooting involved several people and multiple guns.
The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Everyone involved has been identified and the case remains under investigation, Watkins said.
