State Park controlled deer hunts scheduled for 2025

KEYSER, W.Va. — The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources has planned eight controlled deer hunts this fall on six West Virginia State Parks. The state’s Natural Resources Commission approved the hunts during their second quarterly meeting of 2025 at Potomac State College in Keyser.
The heavily regulated hunts are held annually on parks where the deer population has grown beyond the carrying capacity of the park land.

Wahama walks it off to win sectional title after Gilmer forces a decisive game

MASON, W.Va. — Nearly six hours after the first pitch was thrown to open the championship round in the Class A Region IV, Section 2 tournament, Wahama scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to keep their season alive with an 11-10 win over Gilmer County.

More than 20,000 without power in southeastern counties

HINTON, W.Va. — Officials with First Energy say a transmission line failure has put over 20,000 residents without power.
According to a post from the City of Hinton, the affected residents are in Pocahontas, Summers, Greenbrier, and Monroe counties.
Servicemen with Mon Power are hoping to fix the issue within the next several hours.

Elderly Florida woman facing prison time after collecting money from father’s survivor benefits

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Florida woman has pled guilty to possession of stolen money after she fraudulently received $328,478.38 in West Virginia public employee pension benefits.
According to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice, Semiha Nilgun Gencsoy, 71, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, admitted to fraudulently receiving $328,478.38 in West Virginia public employee pension benefits.
Gencsoy’s father was a former mechanical engineering professor at WVU and taught at the school until 1985.

As Congress considers Medicaid changes, Congressman Riley Moore expresses support

As Congress moves toward making significant changes to the federal Medicaid program, Congressman Riley Moore of West Virginia expressed support.
Moore said the changes being considered maintain services for those who need the health insurance safety net while reducing spending. The proposals do institute more rigorous requirements that are anticipated to cause millions of people to drop their Medicaid coverage.

Mason County man accused of setting fire to home indicted on multiple charges

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. –A Mason County man has been indicted on multiple charges after he allegedly threatened family members and set their home ablaze.
According to court record, Tyler Allen Crump, 34 of Point Pleasant, is charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of first-degree arson.
West Virginia State Police responded to an arson report in early March on Tanglewood Drive, where Crump’s relatives told police that he had threatened to burn down the house and kill them.
