Capito and Justice vote yes on immigration enforcement funding legislation

In the early-morning hours, U.S. senators passed $70 billion legislation to fund immigration enforcement through the remainder of the Trump administration.
The bill still must pass the House of Representatives before going to the president.
The bill passed 52-47 along party lines, with Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, joining Democrats in opposing it. Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colorado, did not vote.

2026 WVSSAC Baseball State Tournament preview

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The WVSSAC Baseball State tournament will begin on June 6 at Marshall University’s Jack Cook Field. This is the first edition of the four-class, eight-team, single elimination tournament. Radio broadcasts of all state tournament games will air on the MetroNews Radio Network and will be streamed at wvmetronews.com. MetroNews, in conjunction with Video Productions will also produce HD video broadcasts of the four championship games.

Preston Pierce returns to Wood County following North Carolina arrest

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. –The man accused in the 2022 disappearance and murder of Gretchen Fleming is back in Wood County after waiving his extradition hearing in North Carolina.
Gretchen Fleming, 28, of Vienna, was last seen Dec. 4, 2022.
According to a release from the Parkersburg Police Department, Preston Pierce, 58, was extradited back to Parkersburg by detectives with the PPD.
Pierce was arrested on May 15 in Buncombe County, N.C. That same day a Wood County Grand Jury indicted Pierce on charges

CTC Council approves presidential appointments at BridgeValley, Pierpont, and West Virginia Northern

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A lengthy state Community and Technical College Council meeting Thursday included the approval of three new school presidents across the state.
