Annual homeless count effort takes place this week

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Point-in-Time Count (PIT) is a federally required, annual count of people experiencing homelessness, taking place this year this Wednesday and Thursday.
The data collected during PIT is what HUD uses to determine funding levels, program priorities, and resource allocation for communities across the state.

Kanawha County Commission focused on clean water projects in 2026

CHARLESTON, W.Va – The Kanawha County Commission is taking a few issues into focus in 2026, and among them is continued work to extend water service to areas of the county that do not actively have running water.

Senate passes bill upping punishment for those convicted of second-degree murder

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Senate has passed a bill that would add five years to the minimum sentence for someone convicted of second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in West Virginia.
SB 137 increases the minimum sentence for second-degree murder from 10 years to 15 years and the maximum from 40 years to 60 years and raises the penalty for voluntary manslaughter from a range of three to 15 years to a range of five to 25 years.

Morrisey says internal investigation underway after death of Taylor County girl

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Patrick Morrisey says the state Department of Human Services is investigating a Taylor County case that resulted in the death of an 11-year-old girl.

Fairmont-based TMC Technologies earns $84 million U.S. Navy contract

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — TMC Technologies has been awarded a five-year $84 million contract by the U.S. Navy to provide technical support and development to the Naval Surface Warfare Center Division Dahlgren in Virginia.
