Man hit by train in Kanawha County

MALDEN, W.Va. — A man is in the hospital with injuries after being struck by a train in Kanawha County Sunday afternoon.
Deputies say a call came in just before 12:30 p.m. along the 4400 block of Planters Drive in Malden.
They said the man is responsive.

Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority works to navigate changes to its ambulance dispatch system

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Emergency Medical Service industry is making some changes to its operational framework.

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The Fairmont State University Center for Aviation Excellence has plans to add three aircraft over the next 18 months that will give them the capacity to expand.
Director and Chief Pilot Joel Kirk said Fairmont State University offers degrees in Professional Flight and Aviation Management. All students get the aircraft business portion of the training, and those who aspire to be pilots take on those additional training responsibilities.

Lead WV Gold Star Mother stepping down

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The lead member in the West Virginia Gold Star Mother organization is stepping down from the role.
After heading up the organization honoring their children who fought and died while serving in the Armed Forces, Shirley White said she is stepping down and moving out to Wyoming to be with her daughter and other family who lives out there.
White said she became involved with the group after the loss of her two sons in the military who passed away in 2005 and 2008.

Mayer: Answers to child welfare system issues can be found within listening sessions

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — In March, Department of Human Services Secretary Alex Mayer stood in front of senators and said that no outside study of the state’s child welfare system would be necessary on his watch.
A proposed piece of legislation, S.B. 727, would have mandated the DoHS to hire an external third party to conduct a study of the system and identify its shortcomings in current laws and processes, all in hopes of improving.

CWA official voices concerns over BEAD program federal funding pause; Morrisey says he’s confident it will happen

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Communication Workers of America rep Elaine Harris says that having access to affordable and reliable high-speed internet is more essential now more than ever, for health, safety and education.

Power restoration efforts slowed by wind gusts topping 30 mph

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Appalachian Power hopes to make better progress Sunday on power restoration efforts in southern West Virginia.
Crews, including out-of-state contractors, were slowed Saturday because of frequent wind gusts that topped 30 mph. The company said it’s unsafe to be in a bucket truck when the wind is blowing that hard.
In its Saturday evening report, the utility said it still had 19,000 customers without service in the Mountain State from Friday night’s late night storm.

Mountaineers swept by Kansas, close regular season with fourth consecutive loss
