Gassaway Kroger to close Friday

GASSAWAY, W.Va. — Friday will be the last day in business for the Gassaway Kroger in Braxton County. Earlier this year, the Kroger corporate offices announced the closing of around 60 stores across the Mid-Atlantic Region including the Gassaway location. It’s the smallest store in the region.
It’s a blow to the town and a tear jerker for Mayor Paula Cunningham.

Lincoln County Sheriff Brian Graley dies at age 59

HAMLIN, W.Va. — Lincoln County Sheriff Brian Graley has died.
Brian Graley
Graley, 59, died Thursday following a recent illness.
Graley was serving his first term as sheriff. He was the Lincoln County circuit clerk from 2022 to 2024.
Longtime friend, Lincoln County Commissioner Josh Stowers, said Graley will be sorely missed.
“He was just a solid person, a solid family man, a solid citizen and someone who just wanted the best for Lincoln County,” Stowers told MetroNews. “It’s just a huge loss

New development aims to help solve Putnam County housing shortage

HURRICANE, W.Va – In one of the state’s fastest-growing areas, Putnam County is facing a significant shortage in housing, but a big step is being taken to resolve that with the announcement of a new development with more than 400 for-sale units moving forward in Hurricane.

Two charged after prank call threats made toward Martinsburg High School

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — An adult and a juvenile are in custody after Martinsburg police say they made a potential threat toward Martinsburg High School.
Martinsburg Police Chief Eric Gibbons said the department received information from the West Virginia Fusion Center at 10:25 p.m. Wednesday reporting the threat.
Martinsburg police launched an investigation.

Cabell County Schools aiming to stay ahead on changes to school meals

HUNTINGTON, W.Va – Schools are back in session around the state, and what’s on the lunch tray might look a little bit different after lawmakers passed legislation banning the use of certain food dyes.

Proposed PEIA changes could end eligibility for spouses with insurance, bump up cost share for new workers

Gov. Patrick Morrisey has a four-point proposal for changes to the Public Employees Insurance agency and a bill to reflect that — but not clear support from lawmakers, according to four sources familiar with discussions.
