CHARLESTON, W.Va. –State Department of Human Services Secretary Alex Mayer updated lawmakers on efforts to address the recent audit by the Office of Inspector General in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services during interim meetings Tuesday at the Capitol.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) today announced that hunters harvested 537 wild turkeys during the 2025 fall season.
The fall harvest is 52.5 percent below last year’s harvest of 1,130 birds, 38.1 percent below the five-year average (868) and 49.9 percent below the ten-year average (1,072). All counties were below their five-year average with the exception of Pendleton, Logan and Wayne.

GREENBANK, W.Va. — Residents and students around the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Pocahontas County are finally allowed to use a form of WIFI after years of research and consultation with the facility’s scientists and staff.
The center earlier this year agreed to allow the use of popular WIFI routers sold in most box stores if they were programed to operate at the frequency 2.4 GHz.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston Police say the man who allegedly shot and killed another man on Sunday is in custody.
Jack Rolfe, 33, of St. Albans is set to be charged with first degree murder in connection to the death of 31-year-old Joshua Walls.
Rolfe had been on the run since the incident early Sunday morning where the two got into an argument at Walls’ Charleston home. Police said Monday that the argument started soon after Rolfe arrived.

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Two teenagers continue to fight for life in a Parkersburg hospital after they were shot while sitting in a car.
Parkersburg Police have charged Butch Knight, 18, with three counts of attempted murder after the incident at the city’s Southwood Park basketball courts Monday afternoon.
“I can confirm they do know each other. There was a brief encounter before the gunfire started,” said Chief of Police Matthew Board.
