Police investigate stabbing in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — One person was taken to the hospital after a reported stabbing that occurred in Charleston early Saturday morning.
Police police were dispatched to a residence in North Charleston in the 2000 block of Hutchinson Street at around 4:15 a.m.
One person was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Charleston police are continuing their investigation.

State Health officials say Wayne Do Not Consume Order continues

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –The state Department of Health says that the Do Not Consume order will remain in place for Wayne following the vandalism and transformer oil release at an Appalachian Power’s East Lynn substation.
In a release, from the department, Wayne’s Mayor Danny Grace the order is set to stay until water sample test results reflect a non-detect of transformer oil in the town’s water plant and distribution system.

Filing deadline approaching for 2026 primaries

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –The deadline to file as a candidate for the 2026 election is Saturday at midnight.

Ahead of the deadline Friday there was some action at the Secretary of State’s office at the state capitol.
Longtime House of Delegates member, Shawn Fluharty, of Ohio County has filed to run for state senate in the northern panhandle.
Fluharty said he’s ready to get to work.

DEP investigating transformer oil spill in Wyoming County

WYOMING COUNTY, W.Va. –The state Department of Environmental Protection responded Friday to a transformer oil spill at an Appalachian Power substation in the Clear Fork area of Wyoming County.
According to a DEP release, around 8 a.m. a transformer at the facility was observed leaking oil that had escaped the concrete containment pad and had entered Reedy Branch of Clear Fork.
DEP officials, upon receiving the report, dispatched inspection staff to the site. Crews were able to capture most of

Two fire deaths reported; state Fire Marshal calls for vigilance in heating homes in frigid weather

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Fire Marshal’s Office says two men died in separate fires Thursday night, and at least one of the deaths is likely tied to having an unsafe heating source.

Legislation to put point restrictions on deer hunting in W.Va. moves forward

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Members of the House Agriculture, Commerce, and Tourism committee denied one bill related to deer hunting and advanced another into the markup and passage stage.
House Bill 4504 would require a second buck taken by a hunter in West Virginia to have at least three scoreable points on one side before it would be legal. The legislation was introduced by Delegate John Hott of Grant County.
