Notebook: Sun Belt joins growing list of leagues to add availability reports; Herd women will welcome UK on hardwood

The Sun Belt Conference announced this week it is joining the long list of athletic conferences to authorize member schools to release information on the health of football players in the days leading up to games.
The Sun Belt, of which Marshall is a member, said in a statement that it will also institute a review process when players are suspected of faking injuries.

2025 WVRC Media Cares for Kids Radiothon brings in more than $224-thousand for WVU Medicine Children’s

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Listeners and sponsors of WVRC Media have delivered again for kids.
The two-day 2025 WVRC Media Cares for Kids Radiothon with WVU Medicine Children’s brought in more than $224,000 from donors and sponsors.
Nine WVRC Media stations did live broadcasts from the Morgantown-based hospital Thursday and Friday.

Belle-based plant hosts emergency preparedness open house Friday

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. –Arclin, a chemical plant in Belle, hosted one of its two open houses on Friday evening.
The open houses aim to ensure that residents understand the importance of emergency preparedness. The first was held at the Marmet Recreation Center.
Arclin organized the open houses in response to a small ammonia storage tank leak that occurred on August 16.

Fentanyl and cash recovered in Wyoming County drug bust

A man and a woman are in jail after Wyoming County Sheriff’s officers found several grams of fentanyl and cash inside their vehicle.
During an August 16 traffic stop in the Lynco area, deputies detected an odor of marijuana in the stopped vehicle.

DNR confirms EHD outbreaks in the mid Ohio valley

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Land owners across several counties of West Virginia’s mid-Ohio Valley started to make grim discoveries in the past couple of weeks. Largely in the Parkersburg area people were finding large numbers of dead deer in small groups on their property. The carnage was also reported on the other side of the Ohio River to the Ohio Division of Natural Resources.

Manna Meal asking for community help to move forward

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Manna Meal, a Charleston-based soup kitchen that has been in operation for close to 50 years, is calling on the community to help them sustain services for the future.
