Community Cares Weeks gets underway at Marshall University

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –Students, staff, alumni and community members are getting the opportunity to come out and help support Marshall University.

The fourth annual Community Cares Week: Giving Back to the Herd kicked off May 20th with landscaping work on Marshall’s Huntington campus. Wednesday, they held landscaping opportunities for kids and a cleaning inside the Memorial Student Center.

Health professionals say that tickborne illnesses on the rise in the Mountain State

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — As summer vastly approaches and as more people plan to spend time outdoors, it’s important to keep one thing in mind– the rise in tickborne illnesses.
West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources and the Bureau for Public Health reports that while Lyme Disease remains the most common tickborne illness in the Mountain State, there has also been a significant increase in Anaplasmosis and Babesiosis.

Morgantown to welcome Parkersburg for WVSSAC Kickoff Game

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The 2025 high school football season in West Virginia will kickoff with two of the state’s largest schools clashing at an iconic venue.

Four more cyclists take home National Titles for time trial races

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –With unpredictable weather conditions on day three of the USA Cycling Nationals four more cyclists were able to secure national titles during the time trials Wednesday.

Judge orders concurrent sentence for Kanawha County man’s latest violent crime

CLENDENIN, W.Va. — A Kanawha County circuit judge sentenced a Clendenin man to the maximum of six additional years in prison after a previously guilty plea in the attack of a former girlfriend.

William Heath, 44, was sentenced Thursday to 1to 5 years after pleading guilty in April to strangulation and one year for a guilty plea for the violation of a protective order.
The attack took place at a residence on Main Street in Elkview last August.

Richwood class of 2025 will graduate having never set foot in a traditional middle or high school

RICHWOOD, W.Va. — The class of 2025 will be the last in Richwood forced to spend their entire secondary school experience in a temporary, portable classroom. NIOSH workers to rally in DC, Morgantown Thursday over DOGE cuts

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Union workers at NIOSH plan to rally in Washington, D.C. and Morgantown Thursday over DOGE cuts that have included several hundred jobs at NIOSH in Morgantown.
The American Federation of Government Employees is mobilizing its members. AFGE Local 3840 Vice-President Micah Niemeier-Walsh said they will take the protest to the headquarters of the Department of Health and Human Services. They plan to rally with other laborers and labor leaders.
