Evidentiary hearing next up for MARL project

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The state Public Service Commission has testimony from four public hearings to consider as part of the application from developers of the MARL transmission line.
The public hearings were held during the last two weeks in Keyser, Romney, Morgantown and Kingwood. The majority of speakers spoke against the project.

Body found in Monongahela River

GRANVILLE W.Va. — The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that a body was discovered in the Monongahela River around the Granville area late Saturday morning.
The department confirmed via press release that deputies were called at around 11:06 a.m on Saturday following reports of a body spotted in the water. Upon arriving at the scene, emergency personnel located and recovered the body from the water, which was found around 200-300 yards north of the Granville boat ramp.

Body found in burning vehicle

CABIN CREEK, W.Va. — The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the discovery of a body in a burning car.
The grim discovery came just before 10 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Cabin Creek Road in eastern Kanawha County.
According to deputies the car was found in flames and when authorities arrived a body was discovered inside.
Deputies released no further information about the incident.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Leaders of West Virginia’s two major political parties are reacting to news that Boone County has officially flipped to Republican voter registration.

Appalachian Power using federal funding for coal plant upgrades

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Appalachian Power plans to upgrade three of its power plants with recent federal funding received from the U.S. Department of Energy.
The White House announced earlier this month that $700 million will be invested in restoring coal as a power source for the nation. Part of that investment included upgrading 13 existing coal-fired power plants in the United States, including in West Virginia.

Jackson County restores courthouse roof, clock ahead of Ripley July 4 celebration

JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va. –The Jackson County Commissioner is making repairs to their courthouse ahead of the July 4th celebration in Ripley.
Commissioner Steve Westfall was on MetroNews affiliate WMOV Radio in Ravenswood to talk about everything they’ve done to the courthouse to get it ready.
He said they were able to get the roof replaced and hire a contractor to come in and replaster some of the courtroom walks because they were damaged.
