Mountaineers look to sweep season series with Cincinnati Thursday

Clarksburg man arrested for threatening to kill ICE agents

CLARKSBURG – Federal authorities have charged a Clarksburg man who threatened to kill ICE officers in West Virginia. 
According to press release, Cody Smith was arrested after federal agents executed a search warrant on his residence in Clarksburg on Jan. 22. Smith allegedly called the ICE Tip Line on Jan. 16 and left an obscenity-laced message, threatening to kill any ICE agents he saw in Clarksburg. The message included references to ICE and President Trump.

Tax cut debate continues as Marshall invades the captiol

CHARLESTON – The state capitol was washed in Kelly Green on Tuesday as Marshall University took over the capitol rotunda. At the same time, lawmakers continued to grapple with the governor’s proposed ten percent income tax reduction.

Lewis County trial involving former pastor pushed back to June

WESTON, W.Va. — A former pastor accused of sexually abusing young girls over a period of several years officially had his first hearing in Lewis County court on Tuesday.

John Radcliff, will receive a continuance until June after Lewis County Prosecutor Christina Flanigan filed the motion in response to an additional alleged victim being found who lives out of state. Judge Jacob Reger granted the request for a continuance with no objection to the defense counsel of Radcliff.

Monongalia County faces lawsuit in jail transport case

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Maryland woman has filed a lawsuit against the Monongalia County Commission alleging she was sexually assaulted by a murder suspect while being transported to the North Central Regional Jail.

The lawsuit says Alicia Wyatt turned herself in to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department on an outstanding warrant on Jan. 17, 2024, and was waiting in a jail van with then murder suspect Jonathan Ramirez.

Slowing Weeks significant for Herd in matchup with Southern Miss

Before Marshall steps outside of Sun Belt Conference play to welcome a nationally-ranked foe, the Herd welcomes Southern Mississippi to the Henderson Center for a 7 p.m. tip Wednesday.

House passes bill meant to unleash millions of federal rural health dollars

The House of Delegates passed a bill aimed at ensuring West Virginia will be able to draw down millions of dollars from the federal Rural Health Transformation Fund.
House Bill 4740 passed on a 92-1 vote, with Democrat Kayla Young as the lone vote against the legislation after she expressed concern about exposure to fraud or federal clawbacks. The bill now goes to the state Senate.

Legislation would lift state requirement for superintendents to live in county or a county over

The Senate Education Committee advanced a bill intended to give counties more latitude when they hire a superintendent.
Until now, local school boards have had to hire superintendents who live in the county or a contiguous county. SB694 removes the county residency requirement from state law, although local boards could maintain their own similar requirements if they choose.

Pedestrian dies after being struck by train in Kanawha City

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A person died after being struck by CSX train in Charleston Tuesday morning.
The deadly collision happened near Chesterfield Avenue and Courtney Drive in Kanawha City at around 11 a.m.
CSX said the pedestrian was on the tracks.
“CSX extends its deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by this tragic incident and will continue to support local law enforcement as they complete the investigation,” CSX said.
There were no injuries to the train crew.

Bill to put antler restrictions on a second buck fails at the state house

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Legislation which would have placed restrictions on a West Virginia deer hunter’s second buck during hunting season has died at the State Capitol. House Bill 4504 was defeated on a voice vote by members of the House Committee on Agriculture, Commerce, and Tourism, but not before some strong feelings from several members were expressed.
